Fall Flower Pot

August 15, 2016

Hello everyone, it’s Annette Green from the Susan’s Garden Club Design Team here today to share a special birthday card for my Mom. I was in the mood for fall, so I created a flower pot filled with fall flowers. Garden Notes ‘Potted’, ‘Marigold’ and ‘Aster’ are brand new dies from the Summer 2016 release!

Check out Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s video tutorial on the Garden Notes Aster HERE.

Follow along with me as I show you how I made it and maybe you, too, will make your own.

1. Cut gold cardstock card for a 5″ x 7″ side-fold card base. Cut a 4 3/4″ x 6 3/4″ black cardstock mat and adhere to center of card. Cut a 4 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ piece of decorative paper and adhere it, centered on the black mat.

2. Die cut Chicken Wire from gold cardstock. Trim off the bottom row and discard.

3. Cut a dark allover pattern paper piece to 4 1/2″ x 2″. Adhere chicken wire die-cut, trimming excess as needed. Adhere a ruffly ribbon across the bottom edge.

4. Adhere lace ribbon trim to card front, then adhere the unit from Step 3 above it.

5. Die cut the Potted die pieces from Brick Red Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink edges with brown ink. Set aside.

6. Die cut the pieces of the Marigold flower from Sunflower Soft Finish Cardstock. Color the flower with a red/orange marker, leaving a scant border of yellow.

7. Die cut leaves from True Green Soft Finish Cardstock. Cup and shape the flower pieces and leaves. Assemble the stamen. Layer and assemble the Marigold.

8. Die cut the Sunflower pieces from Sunflower Soft Finish Cardstock and the leaves from Olive Twist SFC. Cup, shape and shade the pieces as shown above. Layer the pieces and assemble the Sunflower.

9. Optional: Instead of using the die cut pieces for the center of the sunflower, use Prills. Simply fill the flower center with a clear-drying glue and pour in the Prills. (Tip: Work over a shallow tray or the lid of a box – Prills are tiny and can roll around and ‘escape’ if you don’t contain them.) Press gently with your finger so all the Prills attach to the glue. Set aside till the glue dries.

10. Die cut the Aster flower pieces. Score down the center of each petal with the leaf tool.

11. Stir each flower with the medium ball stylus to shape them.

12. Adhere the flower pieces together, offsetting the layers for fullness. Assemble stamen and dip the tips into glue and then into embossing powder. Other options for the stamens: Use Woodland Scenics Pollin, You Had Me at Yellow Prills, or flocking powder. When the tips have dried, adhere the stamen piece to the center of the Aster. Die cut leaves and stem from Spring Green Soft Finish Cardstock. Shape the leaves and shade them with a green marker.

14. Adhere the remaining leaves and flowers as shown.

15. Stamp a sentiment onto a tiny tag. Attach twine and adhere the tag to the card front using foam tape for dimension. Tip: If you want the twine to remain curved in a precise position, use a toothpick to add a tiny bit of glue in several spots to hold it in place. Decorate the inside of your card, if desired, and you’re done! I think Mom will really like this one.
