Rocky the Crab Hanging Charm Pull Card

June 10, 2016

Hi Everybody! I’m Kathleen Adams and I have the honor of being today’s guest designer. I was inspired by my granddaughters love for the boardwalk at Santa Cruz, CA. She never seems to tire of wanting to spend the day there. Here’s how I made this card.

Step 1:  From the “Through the Lens” Wood pack you’ll need two pieces of the cardstock on the right and one of the left pictured below.

Picture3

Cut both of the red ones in half with the vertical wood planks half measuring at 6″ x 3 1/8″ which leaves the red horizontal planks side 6″ x 2 7/8″.

Step 2:  Die cut all the pieces in the Rocky the Crab. I used black scrap for the silhouette die, scrap red for the detailed die and scrap white for the eyes. Assemble with craft glue or adhere your cardstock to ECD Clear Double Sided Adhesive before die cutting.

Step 3:  Die cut all the decoration dies: Shells Small, tiny shell that comes with Rocky, and Ropes with Dove Gray Soft Finish Cardstock.

Step 4:  Color all the decoration pieces using PanPastels. See colors below in photo. Spray all colored pieces with inexpensive hair spray to set the PanPastels. Then, with craft glue, assemble all your shells and starfish (make 2 starfish).

Step 5:  Die cut the frame from ECD Hanging Charm Pull Tab twice. Once from one of the red half “Wood” cardstock and the other with Café au Lait Soft Finish Cardstock. Die cut the “T” shaped die piece with the other red half. Die cut the other “slider die piece.” in the set (picture below) out of one of the vertical wood sides of the paper.

Step 6:  Assemble the slider pieces using 6mm ECD Clear Double Sided Adhesive. The below photo shows you where the adhesive should be placed. Karen Burniston has a great video turotial showing you how to use this die. Watch the video HERE.

Step 7:  From the other piece of the brown cardstock, die cut a rectangle hole using the little rectangle die from the ECD Rectangle Pull Card. Make sure before this step that the rectangle hole you cut is going to be covered when the slider mechanism is in the downwards position so that the sentiment is not revealed until you pull the frame tab.

Step 8:  Create two sentiments on your computer in word. I printed out “Happy Summer” on pale yellow scrap cardstock and “It’s Boardwalk Time” on scrap white cardstock. Ink the edges with brown ink. Die cut the “Happy Summer” with the little circle from the ECD Oval Pull Card die set. Die cut from the same paper the pointy circle that is the other part of the “Sun” from the same die set. Attach the sentiment circle to the pointy circle to complete the “Sun”.

Step 9:  With ECD 10mm Clear Double Sided Adhesive adhere the “brown wood” half cardstock (with the rectangle hole) to the right side of the still intact cardstock that has the blue peeling paint (which I thought looked like the edge of the ocean). With craft glue or ECD Clear sided Adhesive attach your “Boardwalk” sentiment into the rectangle hole. Now adhere your completed slider mechanism on top of the other brown only (right side) matching up the wood grain. With craft glue, glue the two frames together for strength. Glue one of the starfish to Rocky’s claw as pictured.  Now attach rocky to the frame (as shown). Attach your completed frame and Rocky to the slider mechanism being careful not to have it interfere with the “valley” fold when the tab is pulled. You can see this fold in the above completed picture.

Step 10:  Cut a 6.5″ x 6.5″ piece out of Dove Gray Soft Finish Cardstock.  With 10mm ECD Double Sided Adhesive attach the completed step 9 piece to this Dove Gray piece. Glue the ropes to the left edge and glue the all the shells and “sun sentiment” as shown.

I hope you like this fun card and will try one of your own. Although the “Hanging Charm Pull Tab” die set is adorable with the charms dangling inside of the frame, I wanted to show you that you can create all kinds of themes with this versatile die set.  How about a cupcake glued to the frame for a birthday card!  It may seem complicated, but I promise, if you watch Karen’s video you’ll agree it’s not complicated at all
