Elizabeth Craft Designs December Designers’ Challenge – Calendars

December 31, 2015

Hello everyone, and welcome to the last Designer Challenge of this year. For this month’s challenge we chose a theme that fits the new year: Make a unique calendar that gets the year 2016 off to a creative start! This could be a calendar for just the month of January, a page per week or month, or the entire year all on one sheet. Let’s see what our designers created!

Judi Kauffman’s calendar project was shown on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog on December 28. She incorporated Fire Opal Shimmer Sheetz, Els van de Burgt Studio Ribbons 1 dies, an optional clipboard topper from a Tags & More set, and Through the Lens 6×6 papers from the Metal Series pack. After you have taken a gander at the projects shown below, head on back and check it out HERE.

Calendar-A

This beautiful accordion calendar was created by Frances Byrne using a combination of new dies from the Karen Burniston Pop it Ups and Joset Designs collections. To create the accordion calendar she used the new Oval Landscape and the new Trellis Wavy Frames. For the page with the calendar she used the Gift Card Accordion from Karen’s previous release. To decorate the calendar the new Joset Designs Shells Large and Banners were used and the Els van de Burgt Studio Numbers & More 1. Find instructions on Frances’s Blog HERE.

Marsha Valk bought a Filofax agenda and created colorful tabs using stencils, dies, embossing folders and her Gelli Arts gel printing plate. She also created a tab to keep sticky notes. Love how she used the new Els van de Burgt Studio Fitted Frames 5 – Lace Circles to create stencils and the Joset Designs Banners to create tabs. For more info on how to create these colorful pages, visit Marsha’s blog HERE.

Angela Beavers created her own agenda using a combination of dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio collection. She used the Fitted Frames 2 Lace Squares, Tags & More 7 Vine, Tags & More 8 Lattice and the Alphabet 2 Lower Case. She created pages for photos and notes and different tags. Love how each page is unique. See it all on Angela’s blog HERE.And

Pop it Ups Wednesday with Frances – Enjoy Your Day Sweetie

December 30, 2015

BeaverAccordion2wm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here with today’s Pop it Ups Wednesday tutorial. Today I am excited to share with you three of the new die sets designed by Karen Burniston which are being released next week. The new Oval Landscape Accordion coordinates well with the Gift Card Accordion, so today I have combined the two to create my card. I have also used the new Trellis Wavy Frames which works with both of these accordion cards, and one of the new Character Collection dies, Baker the Beaver.

Here is how I created my card:

The Card Base –

1.  Die cut the following pieces:

From the Oval Landscape Accordion

  • 2 Oval Landscape Accordion Pages from brown cardstock
  • 2 medium oval labels from White Soft Finish Cardstock
  • 4 flourish corners from brown cardstock (adhere Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to back of card before die cutting)

From the Gift Card Accordion

  • 1 Gift Card Accordion Page from pink cardstock

From the Trellis Wavy Frames

  • 3 Frames from pink card (adhere Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to back of card before die cutting)

From Flourish Gift Frame

  • 1 small rectangle label from White Soft Finish Cardstock
  • 1 medium rectangle label from pink cardstock

2. Lay the pages out on your work area so that the two oval pages are on either side of the rectangle page, ensuring that all tabs are toward the right hand side.

  • Apply adhesive to the page tabs of the first oval page and attach it to the rectangle page. Then add adhesive to the tabs of the rectangle page and adhere this to the final oval page.
  • Trim off tabs from the last page.
  • Remove protective backing from the Wavy Trellis Frames and apply these to the front and back of the first oval page and to the front only of the last page.
  • Add the corners to each of the corners on the centre page.
  • Apply adhesive to the pink rectangle label and attach this over the label of the centre page to hide gift card holder notches.
  • Using foam tape attach the white oval labels to the oval pages.

BeaverAccordionwm

3. Using the Baker the Beaver Character die set die cut the following:

  • (2) Solid Beaver Body from black cardstock
  • (2) Detail Beaver Body from tan cardstock
  • (2) Beaver Tails from tan cardstock
  • (2) sets of Feet from tan cardstock
  • (2) Noses from pink cardstock
  • (2) sets of Whiskers from white cardstock
  • (2) sets of Eyes from white cardstock
  • (2) Buck Teeth from white cardstock
  • (2) Cupcakes from blue cardstock
  • (2) Icing layer from pink cardstock

(Note for easier assembly apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to the back of all the cardstock pieces before die cutting, except for the Solid Beaver Body.)

Assemble Beavers adding the cupcake under their hands.

BeaverAccordion3wm

4. Using black ink stamp the sentiment “Enjoy your day”  from the Just a Note Clear Stamp set to the centre of the white rectangle label. Color the word “Enjoy” using two different colors of brown markers to get a two-tone effect.

  • Next stamp the “Just a Note to say” sentiment above the first sentiment so that part of the sentiment is overlapping to copy the look of the first sentiment.
  • Stamp the word “sweetie” and the cupcake. Color the cupcake.
  • Attach the label to the centre page of your accordion card using foam tape.

Thanks for stopping by today. I hope you have enjoyed my tutorial.

A Way With Words

It’s a Party

December 29, 2015

Hi Y’all, Robyn here of RainbowWeaves , excited to be guest designing for the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog, sharing with you the new A Way With Words die set designed by Suzanne Cannon of Quietfire Design,. It celebrates my love for Artist Trading Cards (ATCs).

The 2 ½ x  3 ½ size limit sparks my creative imagination and can simply highlight a beautiful sentiment or focal image. They are also a great way to use up small stash scraps.

ATCs are only gifted or traded, never sold, fostering artistic and cultural exchange and world peace.

The New Year is a wonderful time to party, so why not give a tiny piece of art as an invitation. There is plenty of room to write all the particulars on the back.

I bet you can’t make just one! And it doesn’t take long if you want to make a bunch.

Picture1

Instructions

  • Trim Soft Finish Cardstock to 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches.
  • Remove one side of the cover paper of Clear Double Sided Adhesive and adhere to the back of patterned paper and trim to 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches.
  • Remove the other cover paper and adhere the patterned paper to the Soft Finish Cardstock.
  • Removing the cover paper a bit at a time, carefully place 1/4 inch Clear Double Sided Adhesive to the edges of the ATC, leaving a bit to overlap. These photos are of another ATC and the process is the same.
    Picture2
  • Press down well on the cover paper, before you remove it, and cut off any excess on the edges of the card.
    Picture3
  • Remove the cover paper and place the card in your glitter box. (Els has a video on this.)
  • Sprinkle Silver Silk Microfine Glitter onto the border and rub in with your finger to polish. Wipe the card with a Swiffer sheet to remove excess glitter.

Picture4

Picture5

  • Removing one side of the cover paper, place Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet on both sides of a piece of fun foam.
  • Die cut, It’s a Party die from the fun foam, running through a couple of times to ensure a clean cut through all of the layers.
  • Position the die cut before you remove the backing paper to check the placement.
  • Remove the cover paper on the back and carefully adhere the die cut to the card. Press down well.
  • Remove the cover paper and place card in the glitter box and sprinkle the Green Silk Microfine Glitter on the die cut.
  • Polish the glitter with your finger and remove excess glitter with the Swiffer sheet.
  • Use a hole punch to cut small dots from Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet.
  • Position the dots, then remove the cover paper, working one at a time, and adhere to the card. Layering dots will give you some extra dimension.
  • Place the card in the glitter box, apply glitter to the dots, polish, and remove excess glitter with the Swiffer sheet.
  • ADMIRE!

I couldn’t make just one! These are embossed with embossing folders.

Picture6

Word ‘Faith’ was die cut from Velvet Adhesive Sheet and embellished with some peel-off stickers.

Els van de Burgt Studio

It’s Always Calendar Time

December 28, 2015

Calendar-A

By Judi Kauffman

The theme for the December 2015 Designers’ Challenge is an item that is near and dear to my heart: Calendars! I love having calendars all around the house. At any given time there are at least five or six in various spots. So why is it so difficult for me to remember what day it is? Oh well…

As soon as we got the Challenge theme I knew I wanted to put some of the new Els van de Burgt Studio ‘Through the Lens’ 6×6 papers into my project. And I knew right away that I wanted to design a calendar to hang on the bulletin board next to my computer desk, the one I look at many times a day. I picked the Metal Series pack.

Screen Shot 2015-12-21 at 9.51.17 PM

If you want to make a simpler version of this calendar all you need to do is tape two square sheets together, reinforce the top and bottom with contrasting strips to add stability, top with a calendar, punch a hole at the top for hanging. Done!

I took things a lot further as you’ll see in the instructions. Pattern-on-pattern and lots of embellishments is my idea of heaven…

Tip: Take your time. Arrange, rotate, and rearrange the papers till you get a combination you want. Be very INTENTIONAL in your choices, how you position the papers, and what you do for embellishments.

Options:

*Instead of a calendar with all of the months shown at once, use a calendar pad with one month showing at a time.

*Go for a jumbo calendar and use four squares instead of two with a finished size of 12” x 12” instead of 6” wide x 12.5” long.

*Create smaller calendars using Tags & More die sets for shaped backgrounds.

Instructions:

  1. Choose 4 or more ‘Through the Lens’ papers that coordinate and please your eye. Choose 2 papers to leave whole; one for the top half of the calendar, the other for the bottom half. If you want to duplicate my project precisely as shown, choose the two pieces from the Metal Series pack that star in my project – one with a dark band that looks like a rusty old iron chain made of bent nails, one with a bent rusty metal piece with curves and twists. Both of these elements are oriented so they are strong horizontal bands. (With papers in hand it will be easy to match what I did.)

Calendar-H[1]

  1. Cut a 4” x 6” piece from another paper and back with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet. Cut the rectangle into three strips: one 1” x 6” strip and two 1.5” x 6” strips.
  1. Use the 1” x 6” strip on the back to join the two 6” x 6” squares. This strip becomes a decorative element on the back of the finished calendar.
  1. Score and fold the 1.5” x 6” strips lengthwise. Use them as a binding to reinforce the top and bottom of the calendar (like binding on a quilt or blanket). Overlap ONLY .25” of the main squares so very little of the pattern is covered.
  1. Mat a 3.5” x 4.5” calendar with a double border made from two more of the Metal Series papers.

Calendar-C

  1. Place the joined papers on a cutting mat and use a craft knife to carefully fussy-cut some of the curved areas at the bottom of the dark metal section (midway down the top paper) so the matted calendar can be tucked beneath it as shown in the photos above and below. Use Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to secure the calendar in place.

Calendar-D

7. Back three .5” x 6” pieces of Fire Opal Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz and one 2.5” x 1.75” piece of Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Also cut another 2.5” x 1.75” piece of Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz (not backed with Adhesive).

8. Die cut three Ribbon strips from Fire Opal Gemstone – two with narrow rectangular holes, one with oval holes. Keep the little pieces that fall out of the negative spaces in the die on a piece of waxed paper or a non-stick craft sheet. See photo above: You will be using the longer narrow pieces to create faux staples in step 9.) There are 5 dies in the Ribbons 1 set, only 2 used for this project. A Metal Adaptor Plate is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. (Reminder: *Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube tutorial if you are new to this technique, the cutting side of the die must face the metal plate with the Shimmer Sheetz facing UP in between the die and plate.)

Calendar-F9. Lightly sand the adhesive-backed Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz to tone down the shine. Die cut one clipboard-style hanger piece from this Shimmer Sheetz and a second one from the Gold piece that does not have adhesive. Attach the Gold pieces (back to back) at the top of the calendar, centered, as shown in the photo below – adhesive-backed piece on the front. (The clipboard hanger piece is from the Tags & More 8/Lattice die set. If you have other Tags & More die sets, die cut a .25” hole and substitute a different decorative reinforcement to surround the hole at the top of the calendar).

Calendar-B

  1. Add three pieces of Gold Foil Chevron Washi Tape measuring 1.25” – 1.5”, randomly cut, to the top and bottom bands and one piece on each side of the calendar. To create the faux staples, add lots of the little rectangular pieces of adhesive-backed Fire Opal Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz (that were set aside in step 7) between the pieces of Washi Tape along the top and bottom bands, and around the outside of the matted calendar. The tape and faux staples appear to be holding the project together but they’re purely decorative! (Keep the little oval leftover pieces for another project.)

Calendar-E

I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial and get busy making your own calendars with ‘faux staples’ and Shimmer Sheetz Ribbons! Don’t forget to check the Elizabeth Craft Designs Blog on the 31st for more December Designers’ Challenge calendar theme projects.

Happy Anniversary

December 27, 2015

IMG_5538

Hello, This is Jackeline and for my last project of this year I combined some of the new Stitched Frames and Chain 1 from Els Van de Burgt Studio with my favorite flower, the Poinsettia.

Let’s get started:

1. Cut white cardstock 10 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches; fold in half for a card base.

2. Die cut Stitched Ovals, 2 in white cardstock and one in green patterned paper.

3. Layer ovals as shown, using clear double side adhesive tape.

4. Die cut 2 silhouette poinsettias in white cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the front. Remove the backing from the tape; cover the adhesive with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. Brush off any excess glitter and polish the glitter with a fingertip to bring out the maximum sparkle!

5. Build the Poinsettias: Layer a decorative overlay on top of a glittered silhouette (shapes match and align). Add this to a green silhouette, offset the white, 2-layer poinsettia to ensure that the green leaves are visible. Add a cluster of six Gold Glitter Dots peel-offs to the center of each poinsettia for the bracts.

6. Back green cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape and die cut the two Chains 1 strips to decorate the top and bottom of the front card.

7.- Die cut the sentiment ‘Happy Anniversary’ from Through the Lens Wood Series patterned paper. Options: Adhere to project using slivers of foam tape for dimension, or back the Wood Series paper with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape or Sheet before die cutting.

Happy Crafting!!!

A Cheery Strawberry Thank You!

December 26, 2015

Hi, It’s Kelly Booth here today with a cheerful way to send a thank you.

We all need thank you cards, especially this time of year, and this is a fun one using some *new* Elizabeth Craft Designs dies created by Joset van de Burgt and one of my favorite Accordion die sets; the Fancy Label, by Karen Burniston.

Here is the card in the closed position:

Watermarked Photo 1 (2015-12-07-0630)

And here is the card opened up!

Watermarked Photo 2 (2015-12-07-0631)

The back of the card:

Watermarked Photo 4 (2015-12-07-0632)

Start by gathering the dies you will need for this project: (1149 Strawberries), (771) Accordion Fancy Label , (907) Fancy Seasons Frame Edges, and (1096) Flourish Gift Frame (for the thanks)

You’ll also need some other Elizabeth Craft Designs supplies:

DSC_3608

  1. Using a small piece of Soft Finish Cardstock about 2″ by 4″ place a piece of Double-Sided Adhesive on the smooth side. Peel up the liner on the adhesive, cover with Chocolate Silk Microfune Glitter and polish the glitter really well into the adhesive. Place Double-Sided Adhesive on the back of the glittered piece and cut the chocolate strawberry dips. Cover them with Glossy Accents to make them appear wet and shiny like real chocolate and set aside to dry.
  2. Cut three pieces of Soft Finish Cardstock 4.25″ by 8.5″ and place double sided adhesive on the smooth side of each piece. Cut (16) polka dot Frame edges, (2) of the larger decorator labels, (2) labels using the Accordion die itself (snip the connection points and tabs to leave just the labels themselves), and (2) strawberry overlays. Emboss the 2 large labels with the Lots of Dots embossing folder.
  3. Place Double-Sided Adhesive onto a scrap of red and cut the “thanks” from the Flourish Gift Frame set.DSC_3591

4. Die Cut the following pieces without adhesive on the back.

DSC_3586

5. Color the strawberry leaves, detail strawberries, stems, and solid strawberries with markers.  (I used Copics and then textured a little with a rag and some Blending fluid.

DSC_3606

6. Adhere the Frame Edges around the two front pages leaving even spacing on both sides of the frame. Adhere the embossed labels to the center of each page. Snip off the long side tab on the right page. Decorate the right page with the red “thanks” referring to the photos for placement. Use a pop dot or foam tape under the small white label. Assemble the small strawberry and attach it to the raised white label as shown.

7. Place the colored strawberry leaves on the first page using liquid adhesive. Assemble the large strawberry and adhere in the position shown using foam tape adhesive.

8. Attach the two pages to each other using tape on the long side tab on the outer frame of the first page. Turn the album over and add the remaining 8 Frame Edges to the back of the album, which will disguise the tab that was used to connect the pages.

9. Using liquid adhesive on the two small tabs, join the two inner panels together. Train the card to fold correctly as shown in the photos. Remove the liner from the white labels and place them onto the back of the card matching up the Fancy Label shape. (This helps make the card sturdier and also helps support the tabs underneath.

A Way With Words

Christmas Love

December 25, 2015

ChristmasLove1a

Hello and Merry Christmas!!!

It’s Wanda here and I hope you are having a wonderful day! Unexpectedly (and we are thrilled) our daughter has made it home for Christmas and our youngest son is here today.  We celebrated last night with our oldest son who got married this year.

It seems fitting to share a Christmas project on Christmas Day.  I’ve made a card but this design could easily translate to a small canvas or home décor project.  The card itself could even be framed.

ChristmasLove1b

How I created the card:

1) Cut 2 pieces of Soft Finish Cardstock – One 5 ½” x 8 ½” and fold it in half for the base card – One 4” x 5 ¼” to layer and ink this piece with both Distress Inks, focusing Cracked Pistachio in the upper left corner and Festive Berries around all the other edges.  Attach layer to card.

2) Tear music from an old (rescued, damaged) hymnal, paint with Picket Fence Distress Paint, dry; paint again and dry.  This mutes the writing and sends it to the background.

3) Emboss music paper, ink with Cracked Pistachio going darker in the upper left corner, flick with Festive Berries Ink in the lighter areas and blot off.  Attach music paper to card.

4) Die cut 3 sets of the poinsettia leaves (complete flowers and extra leaves) plus 3 more large extra leaves from Soft Finish Cardstock.  Ink edges of one complete flower and 3 large extra leaves with Cracked Pistachio.  Ink edges of two complete flowers and all other extra leaves with Festive Berries. Shape leaves from the back using shaping mat and tools. Attach three complete flowers together with small brad.  Spray assembled complete flowers and extra leaves with Perfect Pearls Mist; dry.

ChristmasLove1d

5) Attach flower to card and glue in extra leaves with gel medium.

6) Cut Love and Exclamation Point from Shimmer Sheetz backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Reminder: a Metal Adapter Plate must be used to cut Shimmer Sheetz.  Els has a video regarding this HERE.  Attach pieces to card as shown.

ChristmasLove1c

7) Color gumdrop with Sunshine Yellow Alcohol Ink. When dry glue to poinsettia with gel medium.

Christmas Shadow Box –photo

December 24, 2015

Hi, it’s Angela and I wanted to share a holiday shadow box with you. This is the perfect project to showcase a favorite holiday photo. Shadow boxes are fun to decorate using ephemera, die cuts, peel-offs, patterned paper and so much more! Shadow boxes work perfectly with any style whether you are shabby chic, formal or vintage. You can create one to perfectly suit your style. Let me share with you how easy it is to create one for yourself.
*This project was created using a Graphic 45 Window Shadow Box in black.
*Cut 3 white panels 4 x 4 and adhere one in each window.

*Christmas ephemera was distressed with ink, placed in the bottom window and glued down.
*Die cut a silver glittered corner and glue to the bottom right corner of the shadow box.

*Snowflake peel-offs and circles from the peel-off sheet were placed in the center window and around the whole shadow box.
*The number 25 and “Merry Christmas” were placed in the center window.

*A vintage photo was placed in the top window along with a glittered die cut silver corner.
*Die cut the word “Believe” from glittered silver paper and glue to the top of the shadow box.
*Add a red and silver ribbon around the box, tied in a bow at the right side.
*Add Santa to the shadow box.
I hope you will give this project a try. This would make a fun holiday gift or a perfect addition to your home for the holidays!

Pop it Ups Wednesday with Frances Byrne – Happy Moo Year!

December 23, 2015

KBMooYear1wm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here with today’s Pop it Ups Wednesday tutorial. Christmas is just a couple of days away which means that we will soon be farewelling 2015 and welcoming the new year 2016. So today I am sharing a New Years card using Brownie the Cow and the Tags Pivot Card die set.

Here is how I created my card:

  1. Using a piece of 12 inch square designer paper score at 6 inches. Fold designer paper in half.
  • Open the designer paper up again and this time fold in the opposite direction so the pattern we want to be seen when the card is complete is on the inside.
  • Take the piece of  Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape 6 inches x 12 inches and cover one side of the paper. Remove protection backing and refold the paper so that you now have the designer paper pattern on both sides sides.
  • Trim designer paper down so it measures 8 1/2 inches x 5 3/4 inches.

KBMooYear4wm

2.  Score along the 8 1/2 inch side of the card at 4 1/4 inches. Place the centre nubs of the main pivot die from the Tags Pivot Card so it is centred on the score line and run through die cutting machine.

  • Take a scrap of black card stock and place the main pivot card die onto this card and run through die cutting machine.
  • Trim out just the Tag portion from the black card and adhere this over the tags on the designer paper piece.

KBMooYear6wm

3. Using the Brownie the Cow Character die set die cut the following:

  • (1) Solid Cow Body from black card
  • (1) Detail Cow Body from white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (1) Set of Cow Horns from white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (1) Set of Eyes from white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (1) Set of Hooves from black card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
  • (1) Cow Face from pink card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)

KBMooYear5wm

  • Using a black marker create cow spots randomly over the white detail cow’s body.
  • Assemble Brownie the Cow. You can view Karen Burniston’s video on how to assemble Brownie the Cow here.

KBMooYear2wm

4. Using three of the tag die from the Tags Pivot Card die set die cut using White Soft Finish Cardstock.

  • Attach the Cow to the largest tag using foam tape and then adhere this tag to the largest pivot tag on the card again using foam tape.
  • Using the Numbers & More die set die cut the numbers “2 0 1 6” from black card that has Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape on the back. Attach the numbers to the two smaller tags referring to photo above for placement.
  • Using the “and Happy New Year” sentiment from the Merry & Bright Clear Stamp set. Mask all of the sentiment except for the word Happy using masking tape or post it notes. Ink Up the word Happy using black ink and stamp towards the bottom of the middle  tag.
  • Now mask the sentiment so just the word Year! can be stamped and stamp this onto the other tag.
  • Add the word “moo” above the word year on the last tag by using the Black Alphabet 1 Lower Key Peel Off Stickers.
  • Attach the remaining tags to the tag pivot portion of the right side of the card.
  • Thread black ribbon through the holes of each of the tags and tie off using white hemp cord.

5. Decorate the inside of the card by die cutting the decorative ribbon from the Ribbon & Jewels die set from both black card and white card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting) Note: You will have to die cut a total of 4 of each color to complete the card.

  • Adhere the white decorative ribbon to the lower portion of the card and then apply the black so it is offset from the white ribbon so  both colors can be seen.
  • Add Black/Silver Glitter Dots Peel Off Stickers to the circle portion of the die cut.
  • Using the Fitted Frames 1 Lace Rectangles die set, die cut the largest photo corner from black card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting). Adhere the photo corners to the top left and right corners of the inside of the card.

6. Using black card that has Double Sided Adhesive Tape adhered on the back, die cut the letters “W H A T S M O O”  from the Alphabet 1 Caps die set. Also die cut the symbol @ from the Numbers & More die set.

  • Referring to the photo above attach the letters onto the card. Create the apostrophe by cutting  part of @ symbol and by adding a inner circle from either the number 6 or number 9 from the Numbers & More die set.
  • Decorate the lower portion of the card by adding the decorative ribbon from the Ribbons & Jewels die set as we did in step 5 on the inside of the card.

7. Add the remaining decorative ribbon from the Ribbons & Jewels die set along the bottom of the back of the card.

Fly with Me to the Rainbow – Shadow Box Frame

December 22, 2015

Hi there! It’s Marsha today with my first project featuring the exciting new Els van de Burgt Studio and Joset Design die sets!

Last week my mom and I went to the theatre to see a Dutch celebrity perform some of his songs. One of his greatest hits is ‘Vlieg met me mee’, a parody of a Eurovision Song Contest song.

The main lyric translates as: ‘Fly with me to the rainbow’. It’s a silly, humorous, sing-along (love) song that brings back happy memories for me and it’s the main inspiration for this shadow box frame!

Here are the steps to create something similar:

Marsha Valk | Elizabeth Craft Designs: Fly with me to the Rainbow // Shadow Box Frame

1. Cut a sheet of Soft Finish Cardstock to the size of your extra deep edge frame (my frame was 6.3″) to use as the mat. Use the largest Fitted Circle to create a window in the middle of it.

2. Die-cut the Hot Air Balloon and the Rainbow Sky parts out of coloured cardstock.

3. Use one or two of the chains and/or ropes from the Chains 1 and Ropes 1 die-sets to create the landscape. I cut two scraps of green cardstock to approximately 3″ x 6″ and used the chain/rope dies to cut each scrap down the middle.

4. Ink the die-cut edges of the four pieces with Distress Ink.

5. Cut a sheet of light blue paper to the size of your frame.  Adhere the green scraps in an overlapping way to create the landscape.

Notice that in the photo my light blue paper and the green paper don’t exactly match up. This is not a problem, as this ‘shortage’ will be covered by the circle mat later on!

6. Assemble all die-cuts and use Clear Double Sided Adhesive and foam tape to adhere them to the scene.

7. Add the mat and the scene to the extra deep edge frame.

Mine came with a spacer to separate the mat from the image, but you can achieve something similar by adding craft foam or foam tape to the back of the white mat.

8. Enjoy!

Happy Holidays!

Marsha
