Elizabeth Craft Designs November Designers’ Challenge – White, Silver, Gold

This month’s Designers’ Challenge is all about the colors white, silver and gold. We challenged our designers to create a project using these colors. They could use all three colors or a combination of two.

The first project is this beautiful photo frame create by Angela Beavers. She used Shimmer Sheetz and the Trendy Tiles 1 embossing folder to decorate the frame. She distressed the frame to create an antique look. Visit Angela’s blog for more info.

In our next project, Marsha Valk shows us how easy it is to turn simple glass bottles in beautiful candle holders. She first painted the bottles and then decorated them with die cut shapes from the Jewelry Die 1 – Sea Glass die set and Silk Microfine Glitter. Jackeline Hernandez created a beautiful box using the Tags and More 9 Sparkle and a combination of dies and Silk Microfine Glitter to decorate the box. Frances Byrne created this stunning card using the Poinsettia die, Tags & More 9 Sparkle, and the Sprig with Berries. She used Silk Microfine Glitter for the poinsettias and the sprigs and to color the inside of the card. Love the layout and the sparkles. Find out more on Frances’s blog HERE.

Els van de Burgt joined this month’s challenge with this beautiful elegant card using Silk Microfine Glitter and lace. You can find out more about this technique in her YouTube video HERE. For the sentiment she used the Happy Birthday die and Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz. She created an easel to display the card using the Card Stand/Easel die. This Merry Christmas winter scene card was created by Els’s daughter Joset. She used the 5 Part Pine and Silver Silk Microfine Glitter to create the pines. She decorated the card with Transparent/Silver Glitter Dots. Find out more on Joset’s blog HERE.

Shimmer Sheetz Ornaments

Today we’d like to show you our first project for November’s Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Designer Challenge, which was created by Judi Kauffman. You can find more projects on our blog tomorrow so stay tuned!

As soon as I heard that the November Designers’ Challenge was ‘Gold, Silver, and White’ I decided to make some quick and easy Shimmer Sheetz ornaments. I’ve been making flat ornaments to tuck into my holiday cards for many years and the dies in the new Ornament Set 4 from Els van de Burgt Studio were just right for this quick and simple project. (My mantra has always been ‘Easy Isn’t Cheating’!)

I chose White Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz for the ornaments, Gold for the caps. I mixed in embossing folders for texture, Glitter Snowflakes and Glitter Flowers peel-offs for a pop of silver sparkle, and three different gold peel-offs just for the fun of it.

Shimmer Sheetz ornaments are super light; no extra postage is needed for mailing. Add a fine cord, 1/8” ribbon, or an ornament hanger and they’re good to go.

Remember, you don’t have to stick to the Challenge color scheme. Switch the palette in whatever way you want. Add more sparkle with Glitter Dots peel-offs or adhesive-backed gems or half-pearls, or simply add the ornament cap and create simple stylish unadorned ornaments. The Ornament Set 4 die set includes decorative overlays as well as the simple silhouette I chose for my projects; the possibilities are truly endless. It’s all up to you!

Let’s Get Started:

Decide how many ornaments you want to make. This number determines the size of the pieces of Shimmer Sheetz will be needed. After figuring out how much is needed, layer two pieces of White Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet in between. (I die cut all eight ornaments from just two 3” x 6” pieces.)

Using the silhouette ornament shape, die cut ornaments. Reminder: If you are new to die cutting Shimmer Sheetz, review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube video that outlines the technique. A Metal Adaptor Plate is required.

Die cut a Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz ornament cap for each ornament, backing ONLY the bottom 3/8” of the piece of Shimmer Sheetz with Clear Double Sided Adhesive (6mm tape) prior to cutting. A small piece measuring about 5/8” x 5/8” is needed per cap. See photo below:

Cut off the small oval at the top of each White Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz Ornament as shown in the photo below before adding the gold cap to the ornament. But do not add the cap to embossed ornaments until AFTER they are embossed.

The photo below shows two embossed ornaments. Position the ornament inside the folder so that the cap area sticks out of the folder and does not get embossed. Optional – Lightly sand the Shimmer Sheetz to tone down the shine a bit. Add the gold cap after embossing or embossing and sanding.

The photo below shows two ornaments featuring Glitter Snowflakes peel-offs. Using non-stick scissors trim excess peel-offs at the edges of the ornament as needed.

The photo below shows two ornaments made with Ribbon Fantasy peel-offs, both the lace-looking strips and the leftovers from between them. Trim peel-offs at edges per step 6.

The photo below shows one ornament made with Borders Leaves peel-offs, arranged diagonally in three rows, and another made with evenly spaced Lines Dots peel-offs and Transparent Glitter Flowers peel-offs. Trim peel-offs at edges per step 6.

More Options:

Decorate both sides of the ornament instead of just the front.

Die cut letters to make monogrammed ornaments.

Die cut numbers to commemorate the year the ornaments were made.

Make ornament-shaped gift tags. Instead of Shimmer Sheetz on both sides, use cardstock so you can write on the back.

Make cards with removable ornaments on the front! Die cut a pine sprig, berry branch or holly leaves and ‘hang’ one or more ornaments just below the greenery.

Pop it Ups

Happy Christmas Rudy

Hi its Caz here with another card from Karen Burniston’s amazing Pop it Ups range. With so many dies to choose from and me not even starting my Christmas cards yet I thought I would get started with a Christmas card. With so many fun dies across the various sets you can enjoy making your own little scene.

Here on the front you can see I have used the Evergreen Pivot Card and Rudy the Reindeer and some presents from the Evergreen Pivot set and the Outdoor Edges too. To create the glittered outdoor edges I used the wide Elizabeth Crafts tape on the cardstock before I die cut, removed the tape and sprinkled Elizabeth Crafts Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter over the adhesive, polishing in well with my fingers.

The inside showcases the gorgeous trees from the Evergreen Pivot Card die and I have mixed words from the Happy Birthday Pop Up die and the Merry Christmas Pop Up Die. For added decoration I added the scrolls and hearts from the Merry Christmas set. There are so many great decorator dies included in these sets that you’ll find yourself mixing and matching once you own them.

I made an inside cover of the dark blue paper before I cut the trees, I taped in place when cutting with temporary tape, cut and then stuck the blue down inside of the card, before this I snipped the trees out of the blue paper I left the trees white. I die cut all the trees I needed from green card and run through after cutting with embossing mat so it picked the embossed detail. To highlight the embossed details I used a sponge dauber with a white ink pad.

All of the trees were decorated with the Elizabeth Crafts Glitter Dots.

A Way With Words

A Way With Words Christmas Frame

Hi Everyone it’s Teresa, and I am so happy to be here today to share one of the “A Way with Words” dies for a Christmas frame that I made for the holidays. I love to decorate, and one of my favorite rooms is filled with snowflakes, so this will be a wonderful addition to what I already have!

This is how I created the frame:

Start with a shadow box frame that is 9×9 inches.

Cut a piece of the background paper that measures 8×8 inches to fit the back. Cut a piece of the snowflake printed paper that is 6 1/2 inches by 6 1/2 inches and distress the outside. Cut another piece of blue snowflake paper that is 6×6 and distress the outside of it too. Glue on the brown background as shown.

Cut an ivory tag is 2 1/2 x 5 inches and cut the corners. Cut out the Santa picture, stamp and the postcard. Ink and distress them and glue as shown. Glue on the lazer die to the bottom right.

Cut out the Believe die in the adhesive sheet with white cardstock and peel off the top side. Add fire opal glitter to cover the sentiment. Cut out another white believe sentiment and attach under the bottom. Attach to the inside with 3D Foam dots.

Add ribbon, crystals and flowers to decorate and carefully put inside and attach the back… Enjoy!

Pop it Ups

Christmas Tag

Hello, it’s Angela and today I want to share with you a project that my girlfriends & I created this past weekend. We wanted to create a fun & different way to give a gift cards for the holidays so we decided to make a Christmas themed tag. Here’s how we created it.

Die cut the tag & overlay from 11” x 4.25” olive cardstock.
Die cut the Stand Up Helper Tree die at the bottom of the tag & decorate with Red Glitter Dots Peel-offs and a Gold Star Peel-off.

Die cut bricks from beige & red cardstock.

Die cut the stocking, cuff, hanging loop and nail & accessories from patterned paper and solid color cardstock.

Add a 4.25” x 3” piece of patterned paper behind the tag at the top.
Glue the beige brick grid onto the tag and glue the red bricks into the open spaces.
Poke a hole in the bricks and glue the “nail” in place so it looks like it is coming out of the hole.
Assemble and glue the layers of the stocking. Add Red Glitter Dots to the points on the cuff. Use foam tape or pop dots to secure the stocking to the tag.
Add a wood grain paper rectangle measuring 4.25” x .75” to the tag above the bricks.
Stamp the sentiment on beige cardstock , mat onto red & black cardstock; add to the tag just above the bricks.
Punch a hole at the top of the tag. Set an eyelet in the hole. Add 2 ribbons and a piece of pom pom yarn.

Secure the gift card with a glue dot behind the Stand Up Helper Tree at the bottom of the tag.

Invite your friends over & have a tag making party! Each person can create her own gift tag. I hope you give this project a try!

Pop it Ups Wednesday with Kelly – Lorna Label Pop Up with a Bluebird!

Hi, It’s Kelly Booth and I have a birthday card tutorial today using the Lorna Label Pop it Ups die by Karen Burniston and a great Bluebird stamp created by Petroschi Designs by Bianca.

Here’s the front of this top-fold A2 card:

Here are the pieces required for this card:

2 – 4 1/2″ by 11″ pieces of Soft Finish cardstock scored at 5 1/2″ to make top-fold cards.
1 – 4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of spotted blue patterned paper or make your own by coloring the paper with Copic markers and using Copic blending fluid on a paintbrush and lightly touching the card stock to make droplets.
1 – 4″ x 5 1/2″ piece of white Soft Finish cardstock
4 – blue die cut “Celebrate” words backed with transparent Double Sided Adhesive (keep the negatives)
1 – white die cut “Celebrate” word backed with Transparent Double Sided Adhesive.
1 – blue large stitched Lorna Label die cut from the leftovers of the spotted blue paper.
1 – white small Lorna Label decorator die with the sentiment stamped or hand written in black.
1 – 4″ x 5″ light blue cardstock

Directions:

Stamp the Bluebird in the center of the single panel of Soft Finish cardstock and color with markers of your choice.
From the panel of blue spotted paper die cut an Oval Accordion page and snip out the center and side tab to leave just an oval frame. Adhere the frame around the stamped bird and then trim a small amount from all four sides to leave a white shadow when attached with pop dots to the front of one of the top fold cards.
Remove the adhesive liner from the backs of the light blue Celebrate die cuts and begin adhering them in a stack at the bottom of the oval on the card front, placing the negative pieces into the letters for each layer. Remove the negative pieces from the white Celebrate and place it on top of the stack.
Switching to the other white card, center the Lorna Label die over the fold of the card and die cut. Work the scored lines and fold according to the package instructions. Adhere the pop-up card inside the backing card, making sure to avoid the pop-up areas with adhesive and working one side at a time.
From the remaining oval of spotted blue paper, die cut the large stitched Lorna label and adhere it centered on the pop-up label. Keep the scraps of spotted blue paper.
Use pop dots or foam tape to adhere the small stamped Lorna Label in the center of the blue label.
From the 4″ x 5″ panel of light blue cardstock die cut a Gift Card Accordion panel and snip away all of the tabs to isolate just the slotted rectangle to hold a gift card. Adhere it to the inside of the card, making sure not to use adhesive under the tabs that will hold the gift card.
From the scraps of light blue cardstock and spotted blue paper, die cut 7 hearts using Poppy the Owl’s little heart. Add two hearts to the front of the card and the remaining five hearts to the bottom pop-up platform inside the card as shown in the photo.

Awesome Happy Fun Glitter Lace Technique Embellishments

Hi there! It’s Marsha here again today!

I don’t know about you, but I always feel the need to mix in some non-seasonal crafting during these last weeks of the year.

This scrapbook page features Els’s awesome Silk Microfine Glitter and lace technique that you can apply to both seasonal and non-seasonal projects!

Don’t know what technique I’m talking about? Watch Els demonstrate it in this video on the Elizabeth Craft Designs YouTube Channel!

Here are the written steps to the lace technique:

1. Take a scrap of cardstock, slightly larger than you think you’ll need for your die-cuts. Adhere Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet to one side of the scrap.

2. Remove the backing and cover the exposed adhesive with one or more pieces of fine lace. The technique works best with finer types of lace with lots of detail.

3. Choose two different colours of Silk Microfine Glitter. Using two contrasting colours produces the best results, for instance: a dark and a light tone in the same hue or two colours on opposite sides of the colour-wheel.

4. Cover the lace with the darker of the two glitters. Tap off the excess glitter and polish the remaining glitter into the adhesive with your fingertip for maximum sparkle.

The Silk Microfine Glitter will change its sheen while polishing so you’ll be able to tell which parts are done and which parts still need further polishing.

5. Remove the lace and repeat the process with the second colour of Silk Microfine Glitter.

6. Die-cut the glittered cardstock with any die 0f choice. I picked the Jewelry Set 1-Sea Glass die set because it’s still one of my all-time favourites!

Note that I used the Sea Glass dies as they arrived in the package. I did not cut them apart. If you prefer to have eight different solid shapes, 4 large and 4 small, use die snips to snip the dies apart.

Tip: You can always reposition the smaller dies inside the larger ones even after the shapes have been cut apart, or mix and match among the shapes to create even more options!

7. Add the glittered lace embellishments to your scrapbook page or any other project that could benefit from some subtle sparkle!

The base for this page was originally a 12 x 12 patterned scrapbook paper that I monoprinted on using a Gelli Plate, acrylic paints, stamps and stencils!

A Way With Words

Best friends Forever Owl

Hello!! It’s Wanda here and I’m very glad to be back on the Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Blog sharing another card using the fabulous A Way With Words dies!! Today I’ve combined those dies with the adorable Poppy the Owl die to make a card just perfect for a BFF.

Here’s how I created the card:

Die cut the words ‘Best’ (#1050 A Way With Words – Best Wishes) and ‘Friends’ (#1052 A Way With Words – Friends) 3 times: Once from Pink and/or Light Pink Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz, once from white cardstock and once from black cardstock, all backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive. Layer the word pieces so the Shimmer Sheetz is on top, the white cardstock is a highlight to the upper left and the black cardstock is a shadow to the lower right. Leave the release sheet covering the adhesive on the back of the bottom layer till step 4. Set aside.*Reminder: The Metal Adaptor Plate (803) is required for die cutting Shimmer Sheetz. Review Els van de Burgt’s YouTube video HERE if you are new to this technique.
Cut all pieces of #910 Poppy the Owl from Soft Finish Cardstock. Ink pieces as shown and assemble Poppy. Set aside.
Cut #1033 Leafy Branch from cardstock, spray with ink, set aside to dry. from cardstock, spray with ink, dry, set aside.
Cut marbled background paper to 4” x 5 1/4” and ink edges. (Piece shown was from my stash, created using Dylusions Ink Sprays and the shaving cream technique. Alternatively, use purchased paper or another piece of Shimmer Sheetz from the Sampler Pack.) Attach all pieces to marbled rectangle as shown, and then to a white top-fold A2 (4.25” x 5.5”) card base. Add ‘forever’ sticker and draw a box around it with the black Pitt pen.

I hope you like this card and are inspired to make a card for your BFF.

Christmas Wishes in an Envelope

Hi there!

Its Jackeline here and today I want to share a beautiful holiday project. Christmas is around the corner and we all have special people who deserve to be reminded how much we love them. What it is more joyful than a handmade card filled with love? To make these cards even more special I prepared a personalized envelope for mailing and a CardStand/Easel for display.

Let’s get started.

Making the Cards:

Cut black cardstock to 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″. Score at 4 1/4″ and fold in half to create a side-fold card base.
Cut patterned paper of your choice to 4 x 5 1/4″.
If you are using the Jacky’s Dolls in Oval peel-offs, cut a piece of the same cardstock as the card base measuring 2 ¾” x 4″. If you are using the Jacky’s Dolls in Circle cut a piece measuring 3 1/4″x 3 3/4″.
Apply Transparent DoubleSided Adhesive Tape to white cardstock. Transfer the outline of Jacky’s Dolls in Oval peel-off to the adhesive side and, using the glitter coloring technique, add Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter to peel-off. Color with alcohol markers of choice. Watch Els demonstrate this technique HERE
Finally add some border line peel-offs to the edges of the rectangles and the sentiment ‘Merry Christmas’. Match the border lines and sentiment to the color of the outline peel-off, or mix and match.

Making the Card Stand/Easel:

6. Cut a 6 ¼” x 5″ piece of Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheetz and die cut the stand using the Card Stand/Easel die. For added durability, cut the first Shimmer Sheetz Easel with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape and cut a second Easel from Shimmer Sheetz or heavy cardstock. Layer/adhere the two before folding on the score line.

Making the Envelope:

7. Cut a piece of Soft Finish Cardstock to 6 ¼” x 11″.

8. Make 2 score lines, the first one at 3 ¾” and the second one at 8 5/8″. Fold along the score lines.

9. Use narrow Clear Double Sided Adhesive to secure the sides of the envelope.

10. To decorate, add Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape to Soft Finish Cardstock (230 gr) and die cut two pieces with the Flower Cluster 2 die.

11. Place a Flower Cluster on the upper left and lower right corners of the envelope as shown below. NOTE: This envelope should be delivered in person. The fine linear elements in the Flower Clusters are too fragile to survive the postal system. Option: If you do want to mail it, enclose it in a clear outer envelope to protect it and show it off. Write the address on the Soft Finish Cardstock envelope and put the postage stamp on the upper right hand corner of the clear envelope.

Fold the easel in half as shown below and tuck it into the envelope with the card and it’s ready to be on its way! I hope you enjoy this easy and lovely idea.

Pop it Ups

Hop, Hop Hooray!

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here today with another Pop It Ups project to share with you. I don’t know about you, but I always need birthday cards especially at this time of year as I give away a lot of my cards to family for Christmas. Today I am playing with the new Lucky the Rabbit Character die set to create a Pop Up birthday card.

Here is how I created my card:

Cut a piece of carrot themed designer paper so it is 4 1/2 inches x 6 1/4 inches. Cut the orange polka dot designer paper at 4 1/2 inches x 5 3/4 inches.

Score the carrot themed designer paper at 1/2 inch from one end. Apply adhesive to the 1/2 inch score line carrot side up and attach to the back of the orange polka dot designer paper. Fold paper on this score line.
Using the Lots of Pops pop up die, centre the die so that the centre nubs line up with score line of the designer paper and die cut. Refer to Karen Burniston’s video here on how to use the Lots of Pops Pop Up Card.
Fold the paper in half again and line up the edge from the Agatha Edges die set to create edge on the top and bottom of the card.
Open up card and pop up all the Pop Up pieces previously die cut on the designer paper.

2. Apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back of a piece of green card stock large enough to die cut 3 decorative flourishes from the Agatha Edges die set. Die cut. Adhere one of the pieces to the top and bottom of the pop up card. (reverse the third decorative flourish for the front of the card.

3. Cut a piece of orange card that measures 4 1/2 inches x 11 1/2 inches. Score the card at 5 3/4.

Apply adhesive to one side of the back of the pop up designer paper piece and adhere to the inside of the orange card.
Apply adhesive to the other side of the pop up designer paper piece and adhere this to other side of the inside of orange card.

4. Using the Lucky the Rabbit Character die set die cut the following:

(1) Solid Rabbit Body from black card
(1) Detail Rabbit Body from Beige Velvet Adhesive Sheet
(1) Solid Feet from Pink Velvet Adhesive Sheet
(1) Nose from Pink Velvet Adhesive Sheet
(1) Inner Ears from Pink Velvet Adhesive Sheet (die cut these from Detail Rabbit Body)
(1) set of Whiskers from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(1) set of Eyes from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(1) Rabbit Tail from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(1) Buck Teeth from White Card (apply Transparent Double Sided Adhesive to back of card before die cutting)
(6) Carrots from Orange Card
(6) Carrot Tops from Green Card

Assemble Lucky the Rabbit adding a carrot to it’s hand and attach to the top pop up piece of the card. You can view Karen Burniston’s video on how to assemble Lucky the Rabbit here.

5. Using the Props 7 – Basket die set die cut the following:

(2) Baskets & Accessory pieces from Brown Card
(2) Grass pieces from Green Card.

Use the graphic above created by Karen Burniston to assemble the baskets.
Add the Green grass pieces to the inside top of the baskets.
Adhere two carrots to each of the baskets.
Attach baskets to the two side pop up panels on card.

6. Using the Lucky Birthday Clear Stamp set, stamp the “hop, hop Hooray!” sentiment onto cream card using black ink.

Use the Fishtail Banner die from the Lots of Pops die set to die cut sentiment.
Sponge around the edge of the banner using orange PanPastels.
Attach banner to front pop up panel on card.

The Front of the Card:

7. Cut a piece of Orange Polka Dot designer paper that is 4 1/2 inches x 5 3/4 inches

Use the edge die from the Agatha Edges die set to cut a decorative edge to bottom of card.
Adhere designer paper to front of card.
Use the Green Flourish Decorative die cut remaining from step 2 along the decorate edge of the designer paper.

8. Using the Lucky Birthday Clear Stamp set stamp the “It’s Somebunny’s Birthday” sentiment to cream card stock using black ink.

Line up the large label die from the Katie Label Accordion Card die set so that the sentiment is on the right edge of the die. Die cut.
Sponge around the edge of the banner using orange PanPastels.
Stamp the Rabbit from the Lucky Birthday Clear Stamp set onto cream card using black ink. Cut out image and color using copic markers.
Attach the Rabbit to left side of Katie Label using foam tape.
Attach label to front of the card using foam tape.
