Pop it Ups Wednesday with Helen – Rudy Pull Card

September 30, 2015

Hello again! Helen here with another Christmas card, this time using the Pop it Ups Rectangle Pull Card, featuring Rudy the Reindeer. I enjoy cutting Karen Burniston’s Character dies from patterned papers, to change things up a bit!

Helen Cryer - 1

Directions for making the card:

1. Cut some double-sided heavy weight patterned paper to 20cm x 13.5cm (8″ x 5.5″). Fold in half, line up the Rectangle Pull Card die over the fold, and die cut. Use dies from the Rectangle Pull Card and Rectangle Accordion die sets to cut a silver glitter cardstock rectangle and smaller patterned paper rectangle. Cut all the pieces of Rudy the Reindeer, including nose, antlers and hooves from Red and Beige Velvet Adhesive. Cut eight snowflakes from silver glitter cardstock (using dies from the Sleigh Gift Card Holder and Spiral Circle Pull Card sets), and a black ‘Merry Christmas’ from the Merry Christmas Pop Up set. Finally, cut the spinner from the Rectangle Pull Card.

Helen Cryer - 2

2. Adhere the glitter card stock and patterned paper rectangles to the front of the folded card base. Assemble Rudy the Reindeer as shown below, and stick him on the card front with adhesive foam pads for some extra dimension.

Helen Cryer - 4

3. Adhere the Rectangle Pull Card spinner in the position shown below, and glue on all the snowflakes also as shown below. Snip the ‘as’ from the ‘Christmas’ die cut, and glue on all the word parts as shown.

Helen Cryer - 5

And you are done! An easy Christmas card, with a little bit of shimmery snow fall when you open the card!

Elizabeth Craft Designs September Designer’s Challenge – NEW dies Els van de Burgt Studio Collection

September 29, 2015

This month’s Designer Challenge is a showcase devoted to the new Els van de Burgt Studio dies, along with anything else that the designers wanted to incorporate.

Marsha Valk wowed us with two cards: One features an ornament trio that uses Els’s new Ornament Set 4 along with Fitted Frames 4 Curvy Squares for a subtle white-on-white background. The other features five fabulous poinsettias made with the brand new Poinsettia die. Both incorporate Soft Finish Cardstock and dappled colors, an effect she created with Ken Oliver Color Burst powdered watercolors.

Jackeline Rojas chose the new Tags & More 9 Sparkle die as the starting point for her Double Treat Thinking of You card. That’s what we’ve dubbed it because there are definitely two treats going on: Decorative die cutting at both ends plus two elegant layered flowers!

image1

Frances Byrne’s Season’s Greetings Stand Up Helper card is all decked out with sparkly, shiny layered poinsettias. She incorporated the brand new Fitted Frames 3 Curvy Rectangles, the Sprig from one of Els’s previous collections, and showcased the brand new Poinsettia die in all of its splendor!

Unknown-2

Judi Kauffman did some amazing fussy cutting for her Congratulations card. Look at how the nymph’s toe tucks through the upper portion of the ‘C’ and how her other foot just gouches the border of the brown rectangle! She combined the new Fitted Frames 4 Curvy Squares with a layered Shimmer Sheetz butterfly (Butterfly Set 1). The flower in the nymph’s hair (Bunch of Flowers, from an earlier release) matches the bottom layer of the butterfly. Those ‘diamonds’ accenting the frames are her go-to Transparent Glitter Dots.

Judi1

Angela Beavers used the Fitted Frames 4 Curvy Squares to create this fun album that can be used as a journal or photo book. Angela loves quilts, so what better way to use this die than to create a faux quilted look. This is an easy project that works with any paper collection and it would also be beautiful as a card front.

Thank you for visiting our blog today. We hope you are excited to start playing with your own dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio. Don’t forget to visit our designers’ blogs by clicking on their names to find out more about each project. Or visit our YouTube channel and watch some of Els’ new videos, she has been very busy in her Studio creating videos to introduce her new dies to you.

Happy Crafting!

Congratulations Card

Fitted Frames 4 Curvy Squares, like all of the Fitted Frames dies, is endlessly versatile. With one pass through the machine I had enough frames and decorative pieces for FOUR cards. ‘Congratulations’ is one of them. We’ll show the other 3 here on the blog and on Facebook – Be on the lookout!

I love to figure out ways to fussy-cut scrapbook papers so when I saw the nymph at the side of a sheet from BoBunny’s Enchanted Harvest Collection I knew she would soon star on one of my cards. The Designer Challenge assignment gave me just the opportunity I was looking for.

The card is flat and measures a generous 5.75” x 7.25” – I’m going to mail it with an easel made with the new Els van de Burgt Studio Collection Card Stand/Easel die.

Instructions:

  1. Back 5” x 5” piece of teal pearl finish cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet before cutting the frames. Cut ‘Congratulations’ from teal cardstock that is not backed with adhesive.
  1. Use the Metal Adaptor Plate when die cutting Shimmer Sheetz butterfly silhouette, butterfly overlay, and flower. Review Els’s YouTube video tutorial if you are new to this technique.
  1. Refer to the project photo for placement of the elements. Complete the brown rectangle before adding it to the card base. Position the frames first, then the word ‘Congratulations’ (using slivers of Power Tabs to add dimension), and then add the nymph. Trim her wings at the top and side of the rectangle and take care to tuck her foot into the letter ‘C’ as shown.
  1. Trim away the head and antennae from the butterfly silhouette. Bend butterfly wings upward on silhouette and overlay. Use slivers of Power Tabs to adhere the butterfly silhouette to the card and the overlay to the body. Bend the petals upward on the flower; use a tiny square cut from a Power Tab to add the flower to the nymph’s hair. Add a tiny gem to the center of the flower.
  1. Accent the largest frame and the small frame around the butterfly with Transparent Glitter Dots Peel-offs. (The largest Dots on the sheet are the perfect fit perfect for the large frame; the next-to-smallest size Dots are the perfect fit for the small frame.)

Other Options:

*Add a piece of chipboard to the back of the card for additional stability.

* Die cut a Card Stand/Easel; send the easel along with the flat card.

*Make a side-fold card instead of a flat one.

Fall Chrysanthemums

September 28, 2015

ECD-DT-Sept-2015

Hello.  This is Selma Stevenson from Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s Design Team.  The colorful Fall flowers are out in full bloom.  Today I designed a card using Susan’s beautiful Garden Notes Chrysanthemums.  Behind the Chrysanthemums are Flourishes from the Flourishes & Branches die set.  The Friend sentiment is one of the new Quietfire, A Way With Words, die.  The corners were die cut using the Tags & More 1 Lace dies.  A few pearls were added to complete the card.  Below is a tutorial on how I created the card.

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-2This is the inside of the finished card.  I used Susan’s Brighten The Lives of Others rubber stamp on the inside of the card.

GN Chrysanthemum

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-Tut11.  To create the Garden Notes Chrysanthemums, die cut the petals out of card stock using any of your favorite Fall colors.  You can see how easy it will be to assemble the flowers, because there are three sizes of petals (all connected) and then on the top left, you can see the die cut that you just roll, with the self-closing tweezers, to get the tight center of the flower.  You can use as many layers as you want, depending on how full you want your flower.  You can also shape the flowers so the petals bend down, or shape them so it is a more closed flower.

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-Tut22.  To create the card, start with a 12 x 6 inch piece of card stock.  Score the card at 6 inches.  With a pencil, lightly mark the front panel, down from the top,  at 3 inches on each side.  These mark are to help you align the Tags & More 9 Sparkle die.

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-Tut33.  These are the dies you use to create the die cut three inches down on the front panel.

4.  A 5 7/8-inch square of design paper was attached to the lower half of the card.

5.  At this point, if you lift up the Sparkle Die cut, you will be able to see through the die cut.

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-Tut46.  To make the card look nice when fully opened, you need to die cut both a piece of the design paper you want to back the opening of the Sparkle Tag design, plus another piece of card stock the same size as the card.  This is easy to die cut — just place the ends of this die along the edge of the card stock, tape it down and run it through your die cutting machine.  You can use the Elizabeth Craft Double Sided Adhesive between the design paper and card stock, or glue the two piece together.

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-Tut57.  To die cut the additional die cut design, use a piece of 6×6 inch card stock.  Place the card stock inside the card and close the front of the card.  Place the Paris Edges die so it will show below the Sparkle die cut.  Tape it down.  Remove the card stock and die cut it.

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-Tut68.  Attach the yellow Paris Edges die cut piece on the lower half of the card over the design paper, at the score line (over the design paper).

9.  The above picture shows you what the card will look like when fully opened.

ECD-DT-Sept-2015-Tut810.  This picture shows what the back of the card will look like when fully opened.

Susan’s new Garden Note Flowers are medium size and perfect to create tags, small or large cards.

The Shine of The Butterfly

September 27, 2015

IMG_4617
Hi, It’s Jackeline here. For my project today I created a tag that I decorated using new butterflies from the Els van de Burgt Studio Collection.

Let’s get started:

1. Cut a green cardstock rectangle measuring 8 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ (a standard 8 1/2″ x 11″  sheet cut in half lengthwise is enough for two tags). Use the Tags & More 9 Sparkle die to round off the short end at the top. Also die cut a hanging hole.

2. Emboss this piece using the Berry Banch Embossing Folder.

3. Cut a strip of white cardstock measuring 2″ x 4 1/4″. Back it, and a small scrap of white cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. From the small adhesive-backed scrap die cut a hole reinforcement and position it at the top of the tag.

4. Die cut 2 yellow cardstock Ribbons & Jewels strips (backed with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape before cutting). Set strips aside till step 11.

To built the Butterflies:

5. Back a piece of white cardstock large enough to die cut 3 large butterfly silhouettes (Butterfly 1) and  2 small butterfly silhouettes (Small Butterfly) with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Die cut the 5 butterflies.

6. Die cut one large and one small butterfly overlay from scraps of release sheet from Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape left from this or from other projects.

7. Working one butterfly at a time, remove the release sheet a die cut butterfly and position the overlay mask (made in step 6) onto the exposed adhesive. (Take care not to touch any exposed adhesive with your fingers – use Fine Point Tweezers as needed to avoid this!) Apply Silk Microfine Glitter in one or more colors, starting with the darkest colors first (toward the body of the butterfly) and the lighter colors next (to complete the wings). Brush off excess and polish with a fingertip to bring out the sparkle.

8. Take off the mask and apply Basic Black Silk Microfine Glitter to complete the butterfly. Polish as in step 7. IMG_4618 (1)

9. Repeat steps 7 and 8 for all butterflies.

There are 38 beautiful colors in the Silk Microfine Glitter palette from Elizabeth Craft Designs, plenty of choices for creating magical butterflies. The colors I used for my butterflies are in the supply list.

For more information on how to use the glittering technique, watch a tutorial by Els Here

Decorating the Tag:

10. Place the white strip 1/4″ inch from the bottom of the tag. Trim off excess at sides. Add ‘Thinking of You’ peel-off

11. Decorate the top and bottom edges of the white cardstock with yellow die cut Ribbons & Jewels strips from step 4. Add black peel-off lines down the center of Ribbons & Jewels strips, curving the peel-offs as shown. Trim yellow die cut strip and black peel-offs at the sides as needed.

12. Bend the butterfly wings upward for dimension and use a small piece of Clear Double Sided Adhesive Tape behind the body of each butterfly to secure them onto the tag. Alternate large and small butterflies as shown and angle them so they appear to fly.

13. Optional: Add cord or ribbon loop to the tag.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and will create your own butterfly tag very soon!

Jackeline.

Merry Christmas with Jolly!

September 26, 2015

Hi everyone! Helen here with you today, with a nice and simple Christmas card, featuring Karen Burniston’s beautiful new Merry Christmas Pop Up die set, and Jolly the Mouse. If you like making all your own Christmas cards, September is not a bad time to start!

Helen Cryer - 1

Here’s what I did:

1.  Cut a red piece of cardstock to 14.2cm x 20.2cm, (5.5″ x 8″) and a turquoise piece of patterned paper to 14cm x 20cm. (5.25″ x 7.75″) Fold both in half, and die cut the turquoise piece with the Merry Christmas Pop Up die. Cut 2 strips of red polka dot patterned paper to 3cm x 14cm, and 2cm x 14.2cm. Cut some red Shimmer Sheetz to 2.5cm x 14.2cm. Die cut all the pieces for a Jolly the Mouse, as shown below (though missing from the photo are his glittery tail, and candy cane). Also die cut a Father Christmas hat for Jolly, using dies from the Props 5. Die cut ‘Merry Christmas’ words and the two little swirls from red Shimmer Sheetz. Die cut the four little hearts, and the large swirl from silver glitter card. Use stamps from the Merry and Bright stamp set, as per below.

Helen Cryer - 2

Here are Karen Burniston’s Pop It Up products which I used:

Helen Cryer - 3

2.  Fold the Merry Christmas pop-up according to the package instructions (or watch Karen’s assembly video) and adhere the turquoise patterned paper inside the red cardstock. Adhere the red words and swirls, and silver glitter pieces. Adhere the folded ‘Happy New Year’ banner with foam pads. Adhere the 3cm x 14cm red polka dot patterned paper to the foot of the card as shown below. Assemble Jolly the Mouse, and his candy cane as shown below, and adhere to the card. Assemble the Father Christmas hat, and also adhere to the card.

Helen Cryer - 4

3.  For the outside of the card, stick on the remaining red polka dot patterned paper, and red Shimmer Sheetz strip, then adhere the two stamped pieces as shown below. Adhere a red gingham bow near the sentiment.

Helen Cryer - 5

And you are done! I hope you enjoyed my card today, and feel inspired to have a go at making a Christmas card too!

Winter Solstice

September 25, 2015

Hello crafters!

It’s Susan Tierney-Cockburn here today. As summer ends, and with the cold weather slowly approaching, I am suddenly inspired by winter memories.  It is with great excitement that I will show you how to make my “Winter Solstice” card.

When I designed CountryScapes, I had decided that these dies would reflect my story. Growing up in our home on three acres of my grandparents’ farm, after my father retired from the military, was an adventure every day and every season. Looking out onto our backyard, was the split rail fence, and in winter, it was adorn with snow. I noticed the wildlife that passed through our yard, but mostly the serenity it brought by just staring out my bedroom window while I read or sketched. This card is my memory of those times.

IMG_1521

1.Cut A6 card (6 1/4” x 4 1/2”) from 100lb Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Soft Finish Cardstock and a rectangle (6” x 4 1/4”-top layer) from 85lb Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Soft Finish Cardstock. Die cut all pieces twice, except the snow mound, of which you will need three if you’re going to add it in front of the tree, with Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Clear Double-sided Adhesive on the back. Everything is cut from the Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Soft Finish Cardstock, except the Country Fence. I die cut one Country Fence from the Soft Finish Cardstock and one from 100lb dark brown cardstock. Create a cloud and grass template from heavy cardstock.
IMG_1522

2. First, adhere a 2” x 4 1/4” piece of Clear Double-side Adhesive sheet to the bottom of the top layer; don’t peel it until you’ve done the clouds. I use Ultramarine Blue Shade from Susan’s Garden PanPastels Set 2 for the stormy sky. After the sky is done, it’s safe to peel off the protective sheet of the adhesive and sprinkle with the Elizabeth Craft Designs’ Silk Microfine Glitter (apply as directed). Adhere this top sheet to your card. Edge card with the Silver Peels Offs if desired.

IMG_1524

IMG_1525

3. I used PanPastels Set 2 Chrom. Oxide Green Tint and a cosmetic applicator to lightly color the evergreens in the background. Next, I added details to the trees with the Prismacolor Cool Gray pen.
IMG_1530

4. Adhere the trees, branches, Country Fence, and Owl pieces together. I like the look of adding thickness to my pieces, but it’s purely optional on your part. If you want snowflakes, you can use a toothpick, dipped into the Kid’s Choice glue and dot the sky, then, sprinkle with Twinklets/Diamond Dust.
IMG_1531

5. Shade the trees, using PanPastels Set 3 Paynes Gray Tint overall and highlight the details with Paynes Gray. Adhere birch tree to the top layer. Repeat with the branches.
IMG_1532

6. Adhere the Country Fence together, white cardstock on top. Use the Walnut Stain to color the fence, then, use PanPastels Set 3, Raw Umber to shade.
IMG_1535

7. I apply Silk Microfine Glitter (Warm Diamond 640) to my cardstock as per instructions, then die cut it. Place two of the mounds onto the fence, the third one I cut to add some “mounding” in front of the birch tree. Cut the fence in half and use Kid’s Choice glue to adhere it to the right side of the birch tree. (Save the other half for another project!) I also added a mound of snow on top of the post.
IMG_1536 IMG_1538

8. Shade the owl, using PanPastels Set 3 Paynes Grey Tint and Paynes Grey. Details were done with Copic YR12 for the eyes and claws, then I used a black UniBall Pen to do pupils, beak, accentuate the feathers and claws. Adhere to the right side branch.
IMG_1539

This really is a very quick card to make and put me in a serene mood, just remembering a scene similar when I was growing up.

A Way With Words

Say It with Flowers Congratulations Card

September 24, 2015

9-24-2015-A

By Judi Kauffman

A dear friend called this morning with big news: She was heading home from the bank where she had just made the final payment on her mortgage! The timing could not have been more perfect. I had just put the finishing touches on the Say It with Flowers Congratulations Card and now have a recipient for it.

There are so many times when a congratulatory card is appropriate: Graduations and other major milestones come to mind, but other accomplishments like surviving a root canal or learning to spackle a wall or make strudel deserve celebrating, too.

Instead of the usual step-by-step instructions I’m going to outline my design strategies, offer a bunch of options, and trust that each of you can make your own version, inspired by the photos and ideas.

So that I could end up with a 5” x 7” card that looks like almost the entire front is covered with embossed Shimmer Sheetz I employed one of my favorite tricks – creating an optical illusion so that something looks bigger than it is. I started with a piece of Turquoise Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz measuring only 4” x 5” (a third of a 5” x 12” sheet, or one piece from a Sampler Pack) and after it was alcohol ink-altered, embossed, and lightly sanded I cut it into two pieces (3” tall x 4” wide, 2” tall x 4” wide). The band with the word Congratulations does not cover any Shimmer Sheetz, it just looks like it does.

There is no rule that says you always have to COVER a background layer, it’s not cheating to create an illusion.

9-24-2015-B

The Curvy Leaves embossing folder provides a perfect background for small flowers. With the leaves pointing upward the flowers appear to be growing from the stems. Use any Bunch of Flowers dies you want, or pick some of the smaller dies from Flower Sets.

Each flower has two layers. Tiny pieces cut from Power Tabs hold the layers together and hold the flowers to the card front. The bottom flower is flat against the card front but the petals on the second one, the top layer, are bent upward for dimension. (Use nonstick scissors to cut the Power Tabs.)

Instead of my usual go-to Glitter Dots for the flower centers I used Lure Eyes for a bit of added dimension. This is another illusion. We don’t see it as an “eye” when it’s in the middle of a flower we only perceive the Lure Eyes as shiny round shapes.

I used tiny slivers of Tombow Power Adhesive Tabs to add dimension beneath the word Congratulations. (Use nonstick scissors to cut the Power Tabs.)

9-24-2015-C

To customize the card:

*Change the color combination

*Skip the alcohol inks, simply emboss and lightly sand the Shimmer Sheetz

*Use more flowers or fewer, larger or smaller ones

*Go for Glitter Dots Peel-offs (7018) instead of Lure Eyes for flower centers

*Mix in more patterned papers or use only solid color cardstock

*Add a die cut leaf or two next to each flower

*Distress the edges of the cardstock with ink

*Substitute a stamped sentiment for the die cut

*For a word that is flat against the card front instead of dimensional back the cardstock with Clear Double Sided Adhesive Sheet before die cutting

*Instead of a side fold card base make it a flat card to display on a die cut Card Stand/Easel

*Switch to a different sentiment and adjust the dimensions of the card as needed

*Instead of a sentiment add a small calendar pad, a printout of a favorite poem, a photo or handwritten message block and adjust the dimensions of the card as needed

Wednesday with Karen – Fall Adirondack Pop-up Card

September 23, 2015

Hello, it’s Karen Burniston here with a fall-themed pop-up card using the Adirondack Chair die set. This versatile chair die can work for year-round cards and this exact card can be easily modified for those other seasons. Just think of the cuteness overload with Chilly the Penguin in a snowy chair scene for Winter, or Lucky the Rabbit with Easter eggs in the grass for Spring.

KB_Fall_Chair_Card

Here are step-by-step instructions for making the Happy Fall card.

  1. Cut an A2 long card (4.25″ x 11″) from red cardstock and score in the middle for folding. Sponge some brown ink randomly on a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of olive cardstock and add Elizabeth Craft Designs Double Sided Adhesive Tape to three sides as shown. Also cut a 4″ x 5.25″ panel of sky blue cardstock and attach it temporarily, with removable tape, to the top panel of the card. Attach the olive panel to the bottom half of the card. Line up the Adirondack Chair over the fold of the card and add the Metal Adaptor Plate under the card to add additional pressure for cutting through two layers of cardstock. Die cut.
    01_die cut chair
  2. Remove the temporary blue panel from the card, snip away the chair parts, and emboss the blue panel with the Clouds embossing folder. (*Note* embossing the blue panel before Step #1 and adhering it on three sides would also have worked, but the embossed surface would have been flattened during the die cutting process. For the fluffiest clouds, emboss after die cutting.) Attach the embossed panel to the card permanently. Also snip away the portion of the ground that overlaps the chair. Fold the chair according to the package instructions or by watching the instructional video at the bottom of this post. 02_emboss
  3. Cut a 4″ x 8″ piece of the same red cardstock to use as a backing card and use the scraps of red to die cut and emboss two chair arms. Add a piece of ribbon across the front of the card before adhering the backing card, trapping the ribbon between the two layers. Inside the card, create an L-support (also called a pole platform) from red cardstock. Fold under a small foot at the base of the pole, slide it through a slat on the chair and attach to the floor as shown. (*NOTE* Watch the video at the end of this post to learn this technique)
    03_Lsupport
  4. Die cut and assemble Dutch the Fox and secure him to the pole platform. Complete the interior decoration by using the All Seasons Tree die, cut from a dark brown, and the various leaves that come included in the die set cut from a variety of fall colors. Die cut the letters for Happy Fall using the Alphabet Caps die and add them over a 1″ x 4.25″ strip of kraft cardstock.
  5. 04_InteriorKeep the card front very simple by adding an olive piece of cardstock, 1.5″ x 4″, and another tree with falling leaves. Tie the ribbon into a bow. (*NOTE* the ribbon bow will add bulk to the card, which may require extra postage. If this is a concern, substitute a flat ribbon or washi tape or eliminate the ribbon entirely.)06_CardFront

Are you more of a visual learner? I based my Fall card on my Kitty on the Beach card from the June 2015 What’s in a Name? Designer Challenge. Watch this video to see how to fold the Adirondack Chair, how to cut away the floor chair portion, how to emboss the chair arms, how to add a pole platform and how to add the backing card.

Mono Printed Christmas Card

September 22, 2015

Hi! It’s Marsha again! This time I have a Christmas card to share!

Marsha Valk | Elizabeth Craft Designs: Monoprinted Christmas Card

I had this image in my head that I just had to try. I printed a couple of these, some in traditional Christmas colours and some in a more pop arty colour scheme. I happen to like the latter best, so that’s what I’m going to show you today!

Marsha Valk | Elizabeth Craft Designs: Monoprinted Christmas Card

Step 1. Die-cut a stencil out of a transparency using the solids from the Poinsettia die set. Keep the cut-outs, those will be used as a mask. Die-cut three of the poinsettia overlays too.

Marsha Valk | Elizabeth Craft Designs: Monoprinted Christmas Card

Step 2. Cover a 6×6 inch Gelli Plate with neon yellow acrylic paint. Place the poinsettia overlays and the small solid poinsettias on the paint.

Marsha Valk | Elizabeth Craft Designs: Monoprinted Christmas Card

Step 3. I cut Soft Finish Cardstock to 8.5 x 6 inches so I could line up the cardstock to the Gelli Plate perfectly. Pull your print. Clean the Gelli Plate and let the print (and masks) dry completely.

Marsha Valk | Elizabeth Craft Designs: Monoprinted Christmas Card

Step 4. Cover the poinsettias on the print with the solid poinsettia masks. I use a repositionable dots runner to temporary adhere the masks to the print.

Marsha Valk | Elizabeth Craft Designs: Monoprinted Christmas Card

Step 5. Cover the Gelli Plate with a turquoise acrylic paint. Make sure the paper is aligned with the Gelli Plate. Pull your print.

Step 6. Stencil in the small poinsettia shapes on the print with the handmade poinsettia stencil, using a neon pink acrylic paint and a make-up sponge. I like to stencil these a little bit off-set, but you can also align them up perfectly!

Step 7. Use fine liners and markers to doodle in and around the poinsettias.

Step 8. Trim the mono print to fit your base. I trimmed mine to 5.3 x 5,3 to fit a note card of 5.5 x 5.5 inches.

Step 9. Machine stitch along the edges of the card.

Step 10. Die-cut letters out of sticky backed fun foam (or make your own using Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape), die-cutting from the adhesive backed side. The aim is to create mirrored letter stickers that you can adhere to a piece of cardboard or clear plastic.

Step 11. Stamp your sentiment to the mono print twice: once with a neon pink acrylic paint or ink and the second time slightly off-set with a darker colour.

Step 12. Adhere the mono print to the card base using Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

This type of card can be adapted to any occasion. Just trade the poinsettias for another die with matching overlay and you are good to go!

Happy printing!

Marsha
