Elizabeth Craft Designs August Designer’s Challenge – Scrapbooking with Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hello everyone and welcome to our August Designer’s Challenge. This month’s theme is Scrapbooking. We have 4 beautiful projects to show you, created by our talented design team. Our dies and peel-off stickers are wonderful for creating your very own personal scrapbook! And our Silk Microfine Glitter is just right for adding a little sparkle to your pages – or a LOT! We hope you find loads of inspiration in today’s projects.

First project is from Jackeline who created this fun scrapbook page for her brother who recently visited Florida with his wife and two kids. She created a beach theme scrapbook page using a combination of dies and real shells. The surfboards are cut using the basic tag shape from Tags & More 3 – Leaves and for the palm trees and sand dunes she used the Beach Edges. Jackeline also used the new Fitted Frame dies from the Els van de Burgt Studio collection which are great to use to frame pictures or to decorate cards. The next project is from Marsha who also used the new Fitted Frames for her 2 scrapbook pages. She cut a few inches off of each of her frames to create a playful look. We love Brownie the Cow and what a fun die to use for a farm theme scrapbook page like Frances’s. Karen Burniston has designed more cute animals in her latest Farm release or use any of her previously released Character dies. (Collect the whole series!). Frances also used Fitted Frames, Alphabet 1 – Caps and Numbers & More – 1. Love how she cut the frames from different solid color cardstock to coordinate with the striped paper she used. Pop it Ups

Z-Fold Butterfly Pivot

Hello my crafty friends! It’s Raquel Mason here today. I want to show you how easy it is to make a smaller sized Z-Fold card. The recipient will be surprised when they open the card to see the colorful butterflies pop out. Let’s get started!

1. Cut white card stock at 4″ x 12″ and score at 4″ and 8″. Place Butterfly Pivot die on the 8″ score line and die cut.

2. Cut (2) pieces of white card stock at 1 7/8″. Adhere both pieces to the back of the card, behind the butterfly opening. Tip: this step is not required, adding card stock will just make the base more sturdy. See bottom photo for placement.

3. From scrap turquoise card stock, die cut the Butterfly Pivot and cut excess off so you only have the butterflies. Adhere butterflies to base card.

4. From pattern paper, die cut several butterflies using the companion dies included in the Butterfly Pivot card and Butterfly Accessories die.

Place the filigree butterfly die onto desired card stock and emboss using your embossing sandwich. Doing this adds beautiful texture and interest to the butterflies.
Adhere one small butterfly to the center fold of the Butterfly Pivot.
Placing adhesive only on the bodies of the butterflies will allow the wings to have more dimension.
Add Glitter Dots to the bodies of the butterflies for a little bit of bling without added weight or bulkiness.

5. Apply “Thinking of You” peel off to the top left corner of card.

Halloween Fun With Elizabeth Craft Designs

Hi, it’s Angela and I am so excited to share this project with you. My friend Nicole created a festive Halloween project featuring pull out tags. Let me share with how she created the project using Elizabeth Craft Designs dies, Peel-off stickers and Silk Microfine Glitter.

*A piece of cardstock 17 1/4 x 11 1/2 was scored to create four panels, pockets & a flap.

*Inside view of the book with the tags in the pockets.

*Four pieces of pattern paper were cut to decorate the back of the book.

*Letter & numbers were die cut from black cardstock to create the front title of the book “October 31st” and it was glued on the front cover.

*A pumpkin peel-off was placed on double sided adhesive, glittered with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, polished, then colored with Copic markers and then cut out.

*A magnet was placed between the pumpkin and black cardstock circle to create a magnetic closure for the book front.

*Panel # 1 has a pattern paper tag that has been scored twice and it creates a pull down tag which was decorated with a stamp image and metal skeleton.

*The tag has a journal spot and pictures placed.

*Panel # 2 and panel # 3 have tags folded once and google eyes and photos were used to decorate the tags.

*Inside the book was decorated with patterned paper behind the pockets and on panel #4, a patterned tag was placed on the pocket front.

*Four back cardstock tags were die cut from assorted tag dies.

*The cardstock tags for the pockets were decorated with photos of the kids in costumes and ECD double sided tape was applied to the tags and then ECD Silk Microfine Glitter was applied and polished in.

*On the other two tags, glitter was applied and ribbon was placed on all tags.

*The names of each child were die cut and glued to the tag back along with photos.

*The positive and negative images from the alphabet dies were used to create “Brody’s” name and a gold metallic marker was used to write “My boys 2013”.

Nicole did a wonderful job on this cute tag book! Creating one is easy and fun to decorate and embellish. Pull out your photos, dies & glitter and make a tag book keepsake for yourself!

Pop it Ups Wednesday With Karen Aicken – Masculine Card Duo

Karen Aicken here, and welcome to Pop it Ups Wednesday! Since many card makers get stumped when faced with making a masculine card, I have two flat cards to share today. I also wanted to show you how adding some simple die cut shapes to patterned paper can add texture and pizazz. My first card is for a Birthday and features the Barbed Wire from Karen Burniston’s new Western Edges. Let’s get started…

1. Cut blue card stock to form a 5 x 7″ folded card. Cut masculine print patterned paper to 4 x 6″. Cut red card stock to 4-1/4 x 6-1/4″, centre and adhere the patterned paper to the red panel. Cut black card stock to 4-3/8 x 6-3/8″, centre and adhere the decorative panel to the black one.

2. Adhere a 2-1/2 x 3-1/2″ piece of black card stock to one side of Elizabeth Craft Designs Transparent Double Sided Adhesive. Use the arrow from the Rectangle Pull Card and die cut 9 Arrows. Peel off the backing from 8 of them and adhere to your patterned paper where desired. Set aside the remaining arrow and scrap of adhesive black card stock.

3. Die cut 3 Barbed Wire pieces from a Black Velvet Adhesive Sheets. From the Happy Birthday Pop-Up, die cut a Happy & Birthday using the same sheet of Black Velvet Adhesive. Wrap one of the Barbed Wire pieces around your decorative panel at the top left as shown below. Repeat for the bottom right. Then apply your finished panel to the front of the the card with Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

For the inside of the card, cut a white panel to 4-1/4 x 6-1/4″, and a red panel to 4-1/2 x 6-1/2″. Centre the white panel over the red one and adhere. Adhere the third Barbed Wire down the left side and the Happy Birthday as shown, then adhere your panel inside the card with Double Sided Adhesive Tape.

The black velvet adds such a nice feel to the card – you just want to touch it! Tip: Keep the scraps from when you die cut the Barbed Wire as it makes perfect Pop it Ups Character noses, hooves etc. Another great way to use those smaller dies, as the Black Velvet Adhesive Sheets essentially make those pieces into stickers and easy peasy to attach.

I had one small piece of the patterned paper leftover, and I was determined to use it up. So I created a simple A2 sized note card that will be perfect to send to my Dad, who is in a Nursing Home.

1. Cut white card stock to an A2 folded card (4-1/4 x 5-1/2″). Cut the remaining patterned paper to 4 x 5-1/4″ and a piece of black card stock to 4-1/8 x 5-3/8. Centre the patterned paper on the black panel and attach, then repeat to attach the decorative panel to the front of the white card base.

2. From the Rectangle Pull Card, die cut ‘hello’ using the remaining adhesive backed black card stock from Step 2 above. Adhere the remaining arrow from Step 2 and the ‘hello’ to your patterned paper where desired and your note card is done and ready to send to someone special.

Rococo Cards

Hi, It’s Marsha here. Today I’m sharing a couple of cards with loads of glitter and gold!

I recently visited the Charlottenburg Palace in Berlin. The palace is heavily decorated in baroque and rococo style. I left the palace and its beautiful garden with heaps of inspiration!

I especially loved the look of the gilded plaster in combination with pastel coloured walls that are painted to look like marble.

The cards that I’ve created for this post are inspired by what I saw at the palace!

I’ve created a video to show you my process:

And here are the written steps to create the cards:

1. Start by covering a sheet of watercolour paper with water and then paint it with watercolours. I used a Dutch fluid watercolour called Ecoline. The colours will blend and flow. Let the colour pool in some places and drag it around with your brush to try and create a marble effect. Let the page dry completely.

2. Cut the watercolour paper into pieces of about 4,25 x 6,3 inches. Use the Tags & More 9 Sparkle die to round off one of the sides. Then use the overlay die with the dots to create… the dots.

Don’t throw away the ‘confetti’ that comes out of the holes just yet! Keep it in a safe place for the time being.

3. Use the Tags & More 9 Sparkle die to round off one side of a strip of Gold Metallic Shimmer Sheet to place behind the dots in the card. Adhere it to the back of the card.

4. Take a scrap of heavy cardstock (I used the same watercolour paper that I used as the card base) and die-cut a couple of butterflies, a Quietfire word or two and maybe a heart.

Cover each die-cut with VersaMark ink and then heat emboss it with gold embossing powder. Repeat this step until you are happy with the result. I heat embossed each die-cut twice.

5. Cut a strip of Double Sided Adhesive Tape to about 4,25 x 2 inches. Die-cut it with the Tags & More 9 Sparkle die to mirror the rounded edge at the top of the card.

Adhere the strip to the lower part of the card. Remove the top liner and cover the sticky with Solar Gold Silk Microfine Glitter. Tap off the excess. Burnish the glitter with your finger to reveal the awesome sparkle.

6. Decide how you want to decorate the card. I started by adhering the ‘confetti’ I collected from a couple of the cards first. Then I placed my gold embossed die-cuts and I added a couple of glitter details. I finished each card with small specks of paint that I splattered on with a black and a white paint marker.

7. Adhere the card to a slightly larger folded note card or back it with a second piece of rounded off paper to create a single card like I did.

“Butterfly”, The Flying Flower

Hello everyone,

It’s Jackeline here with a project that was inspired by the wonderful Butterflies die sets part of the Els van de Burgt Studio Collection, and my visit to the Butterfly Pavilion with my family. I created a card in black and white tones to highlight the butterfly using Silk Microfine Glitter.

Let’s get started:

1. Cut a rectangle piece of 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ in black cardstock. Score at 4 1/4″ and fold in half to create your card base.

2. Apply a piece of Transparent Double-Sided Tape to white cardstock large enough to die cut:

The Frames using the new Fitted Frames 3.
The flowers using the new die Flower Cluster.
One butterfly silhouette using the new die Butterfly 1.
One Small butterfly silhouette using the new die Small Butterfly.

To built the Butterflies:

3. Die cut one big butterfly overlay and one small butterfly overlay on the release sheet from the tape.

4. To apply the Silk Microfine Glitter: peel off the release sheet from the big butterfly silhouette and place the overlay mask on top.

5. Start applying the Orange Silk Microfine Glitter glitter from the inside to the outside of the wings. Tap it off and proceed with the next color glitter. I used Solar Gold.

6. Brush off the excess and polish. Before removing the mask make sure to clean any glitter left attached to the mask.

7. Take off the mask. Place the body on top of the butterfly and apply black glitter.

8. Die cut one big butterfly silhouette and one small butterfly silhouette in yellow cardstock.

9. Assemble the butterfly, placing the glitter one on top of the one die cut in yellow cardstock using double sided adhesive.

10. Repeat this process with the small butterfly.

Decorating the card:

11. From your die cut Fitted Frames 2, remove the release sheet of the largest frame and apply to card front. You can use the other frames for a next project.

12. Remove the release sheet of the die cut Flower Cluster and apply to card front as show (left bottom corner inside fitter frame).

13. Decorate the center of the flowers from the Flower Cluster with Gold Glitter Dots. Also apply some Glitter Dots to the center of the flower swirls and inside the frame as shown.

14. Apply butterflies as shown using double sided adhesive.

Oh Christmas Tree!

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here today with another Pop It Ups project to share with you. With Christmas now being only 125 days away, I figured it was time to add another Christmas card to my stash. This card uses the Katie Label Pivot Card with the Christmas Trees from the new Christmas Tree Pop Stand Card set and the Paris Edges die set.

Here is how I created my card:

1. Score a piece of 12 x 12 designer paper at 6 inches. Adhere a piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to one of the 12 x 6 inch sides remove protection backing and fold designer paper so it is now 12 inches x 6 inches.

Trim card down so it measures 12 inches x 4 1/2 inches.
Score card at 6 inches, fold card closed and use bone folder to reinforce fold and then reopen.
Place the pivot die from the Katie Label Pivot Card die set so that the center nubs of the die are on the score line, closer to the top of the card. Run through die cutting machine.
Fold card so that the pivot part of the card folds the opposite way to the rest of the card.

2. From the Katie Label Pivot Card set die cut the following:

2 x large labels from red card
2 x second largest label from white card

Using the Merry & Bright Clear Stamp set stamp the “Merry Christmas” sentiment to one of the white labels and the “and Happy New Year” to the other white label.

Layer the white labels to the red labels and then adhere these to the pivot section of the card using foam tape.

3. Cut two pieces of card approx 2 inches x 5 1/4 inches. Position the decorative doily die from the Paris Edges set so that the bottom of the die is approx 1/2 inch from the edge. Die cut.

Place Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the back portion of the 1/2 inch edge of the card and carefully adhere this to the right edge of the open pivot card, so that it is centred top and bottom and that the 1/2 edge of the die cut is level with the edge of the designer paper. Trim top & bottom edges of the die cut so it is level with the card.
Repeat this with other Paris Edges decorative doily on the left hand side of the card. Tip: Position the second one so it is level with the one already attached to the card and carefully close the card so that the cut out pieces of both die cuts match.
Adhere a Red/Gold Glitter Border Sticker so it covers the join where the designer paper and red card meet. Do this on all sides of your card (ie: front, two insides and back)

4. Using the Tree dies from the Christmas Trees Pop Stand Card set die cut 2 of each of the tree pieces from green card stock. Sponge around edges of trees using green ink.

Assembling the Trees: Note – these are assembled slightly differently to how Karen Burniston assembles the tree for the Pop Stand Card so that we can still achieve the 3D look on a solid surface.

Apply a thin strip of glue around the edge of the solid tree and adhere it to the tree with the tree shaped hole in the middle. Adhere the brown trunk over the green one on the outline tree. As per photo above.

Now take the two trees with the notches and slots and thread the tree which only has notches through the middle slot of the other tree. You may need to bend one of the top triangles of the first tree to do this.

Next thread one half of one of the 3D trees through the slot of the large tree. Turn the tree over to the back side and places some adhesive to one side of the half tree, fold this over and adhere it to the back of the tree.

Turn tree back over and fold the inner trees so that you have the middle tree standing upright and the other two trees are sitting on either side of the tree.

5. Adhere the Christmas to the front of the card using foam tape.

Attach Red/Gold Glitter Dots Peel Off Stickers randomly over the Christmas tree to resemble ornaments.
Cover a piece of white card with Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the front. Use the star die from the Christmas Trees Pop Stand Card set and die cut star. Remove protective backing from adhesive and cover with Silver Silk Microfine Glitter, burnish glitter with your fingers and attach star to the top of the tree using foam tape.

Repeat the process with the second Christmas Tree and attach this to the right hand side of the inside of the card.

6. Using the two “inner” trees which were created when die cutting the largest of the trees, adhere these to the left hand side of the inside of the card, slightly overlapping the trees. Add the brown tree trunks to the bottom of each tree.

Decorate the trees using Red/Gold Glitter Dot Peel Off Stickers.

Here is a look at the back of the card. One of the things I love about Pivot Cards is that no matter which way you view the card there is always something of interest to look at.

Potted Geraniums

Hello everyone, it is Christine from Susan Tierney-Cockburn’s Design Team. Today my poject is a Potted Geraniums pocket card. When making the card I first prepared the flowers and leaves, then made the card base, and finally added the flowers and leaves to the card.

Let’s get started by making the 7 geranium heads. Cut the geranium heads’ base layer from red cardstock 7 times. Then cut enough florets to make approximately 20 per head, You will be cutting 2 sizes, 8 at a time. Each little floret is made of 2 pieces, a larger one for the bottom layer and a smaller one for the top layer. (Refer to project photo and photo of dies.)

1. Using medium ball tool from Susan’s Deluxe Tool Kit place the base of the geranium right side down on the molding mat and rub in circular motion over the whole piece. Next lay the florets face down on molding mat and shape with the small ball tool. Turn florets over and with the small ball tool press down just in the center. Using a clear drying glue (Art Glitter Designer Dries Clear Adhesive used here) attach the florets to the base adding until you have the desired look.

2. Using green cardstock cut the stems and bud calyx. Add a little PanPastels red iron oxide in the center area of the leaves. Place leaves right side down on the leaf mat and using the leaf tool put the lines in the leaves. Move the leaves to the molding mat and with the med ball tool shape the ends of the leaves turn leaves over and push ball into the base of the leave.

3. using small ball tool on the back side of the caylx push ball into center. Do the same with the tiny petals for the bud. Adhere the caylx to the base and the petals the back of the caylx.

4. To make the bacopa cut the vine from Susan’s CountryScapes Mini botanicals – Clematis, Ivy and small white star flowers from Susan’s CountryScapes Mini Botanicals – Rhododenron, Azalea, Primrose. Using a yellow marker put a tiny dot in the center of each flower. Place flowers on molding pad and using the small ball tool press in the center of each giving it a little dimension. Take the vines and place right side down on the molding mat and using the small ball tool press gently in areas on the vine to give it a little dimension. Adhere the small flowers to the vine using a clear drying adhesive.

5. Cut cardstock (Autumn Terra Cotta used here) 7-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ fold in half at 3-3/4″. At the fold measure in 1″ on each side and make a small pencil mark. Lay on paper cutter lining up the 1″ mark to the very top edge (see photo)

Cut off and repeat on the other side it should have the shape of a flower pot.

6. Apply clear double sided adhesive to the very inside edge on each side and press together this forms the pocket for the insert.

7. Cut a piece of cardstock 1-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ and round the two lower edges with a corner rounder. Line up the straight edge with the top of the pot and adhere using Double Sided Clear Ahesive this will form the rim of the pot.

8. To distress the pot use a medium green ink and a cotton ball and rub different areas and then repeat with a white which gives it that aged look.

To Make the insert

9. Cut a piece of Autumn Terra Cotta cardstock 3-3/4″ x 5″ measure in on each side at the bottom 1″ and make a mark. Measure up 3″ and make a mark. Line up on the cutter on the 1″ mark and the outside edge at the 3″ mark and cut your angle on each side. Using a corner rounder round the top edges and to round the bottom edges you will have to use scissors (my corner rounders did not fit).

10. Using the large oval from the Karen Burniston Accordion Oval Die Set cut an oval from white cardstock. Distress edges (Vintage Photo Distress Ink used here). Adhere to the very lower part of the insert piece using Double Sided Clear Adhesive.

11. Stamp The oval in black ink using Susan’s Seeds of Thought stamp Take Time.

Building your pot of geraniums

12. Place the insert inside the card and then place your geraniums, buds, leaves and vines so that it pleases you. Once you have it the way you want it using a clear drying adhesive start adhering your pieces being very careful not to adhere the card and insert together. Some of your geraniums, leaves and buds will be adhered to the top of the pot and some will be adhered to the top of the insert and when the insert is in the card it looks like a full pot of geraniums.

Blue Christmas

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances Byrne here. Today I am bringing you a project using some of the new Elizabeth Craft Designs dies to create a Christmas decoration that can be displayed. For this project I used the new Tags and More – 9 Sparkle die set, Alphabet 2 – Lower Case, Ornament Set 5 and the Card Stand/Easel, along with a couple of older dies sets.

Here is how I created my Christmas Tag Decoration:

1. Cut a piece of blue card and a piece of white card that measures approx 4 1/2 inches x 8 inches (we will be cutting this down so it doesn’t need to be exact).

Line up the main tag die from the Tags & More 9 – Sparkle at the top of the blue card stock and die cut. Snip off the excess cardstock around the top of the die and then use your trimmer to trim off both sides to make them even with the top part of the die. Trim tag shape so it is 7 1/4″ long.
Place the snowflake decorative overlay die from the same die set at the top of the tag so that the rounded shape of the overlay lines up with the rounded shape of the tag and die cut.
Adhere a piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the front of the white card stock and place the main tag die from the Tags & More 9 – Sparkle and die cut. Trim of sides of tag as we did for the blue tag above.
Remove the protective backing from the white tag and adhere this behind the blue tag being careful not to touch the adhesive close to the top of the white card.
Cover the adhesive which shows through the top of the blue tag with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, polish glitter with your finger and brush excess off.

2. Adhere a piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the front of a piece of white card stock. Trim so the card measures 3/4 inches x 4 1/2 inches.

Remove the protective backing from the adhesive.
Cover the adhesive with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, polish glitter with your finger and brush excess off.
Adhere strip approximately 1/4 inches from the bottom of the tag. Trim of any overhanging edges level with tag.

3. Adhere a piece of Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the front of piece of thin white card approx 2 1/5 inches x 8 1/2 inches.

Remove protective backing from adhesive.
Cover the adhesive with Silver Silk Microfine Glitter, polish glitter with your finger and brush off excess.
Use the Alphabet 1 Caps die to cut cut the letters “M” and “C”
Use the Alphabet 2 Lower Case die to cut the following letters: ‘e’; ‘r’; ‘r’; ‘y’; ‘h’; ‘r’; ‘i’; ‘s’; ‘t’; ‘m’; ‘a’; ‘s’
Starting with the letter ‘s’, adhere the letters of the word “Christmas” onto the white glittered strip at the bottom of the tag so the letter ‘s’ is close to the right hand edge of the tag.
Starting with the letter ‘M’ adhere the letters of the word “Merry” so that the bottom of the letters touch the top of the white glittered strip at the bottom of the tag so the letter ‘M’ is close to the left hand edge of the tag.

4. Cut a piece of white card large enough to die cut two solid hearts from the Ornament Set 5 die set. Cover the front of the card with Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape. Die Cut two solid hearts.

Cut a piece of Silver Shimmer Sheetz large enough to die cut two lattice decorative overlay hearts from the Ornament Set 5 die set. Die Cut two lattice decorative overlay hearts. Make sure to use the metal adaptor plate when die cutting Shimmer Sheetz.
Remove protective backing from adhesive on the solid hearts.
Attach the Shimmer Sheetz decorative overlay to the solid heart being careful not to touch the adhesive on the solid heart with your fingers.
Cover the adhesive with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, polish with your finger and brush off excess.
Die cut two of the large hangers from the Ornament Set 5 die set from Silver Shimmer Sheetz (adhere a piece of Transparent Double Sided Tape to the back of the Shimmer Sheetz before die cutting). Attach the hangers to the top of the heart so heart looks like a decoration.
Adhere the two hearts to tag referring to photo above using foam tape.
Using blue ribbon, create two bows and attach to the top of each heart ornament as per photo above.

5. Cut a piece of white card stock approximately 1 3/4 inches x 5 inches. Adhere Transparent Double Sided Adhesive Tape to the front of the white card.

Remove protective backing from adhesive.
Cover the adhesive with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, polish with your finger and brush off excess.
Die cut 3 of the smallest snowflakes from the Snowflakes die set.
Attach snowflakes to tag using photo above for placement.

6. Decorate the Lattice Heart Ornaments; Snowflakes and the snowflake overlay at the top of the tag using Blue/Gold Glitter Dot Peel Off Stickers. (Note: I have used the glitter dots on the swirls as well as the lattice portion of the heart ornament.)
