Karen Aicken here, and I have two birthday cards to share today. I started out with the purse Peel-Off, adhering it to 90# water color paper and coloring the image with Tombow Dual Brush Markers and a wet paintbrush. But I kept looking at the negative image and wanting to use it too. So I used a Transfer Sheet and adhered the negative pieces to a Shimmer Sheetz and fussy cut it out. (Els has a video HERE showing the transfer technique).
I really liked the Shimmer Sheetz purse, so decided to use it for my first card.
1. Cut your patterned paper 4-1/4″ wide and 12″ long. Score in the center giving you a 4-1/4 x 6″ folded card. This is your inner card.
2. Use one of the Agatha Edge dies to cut the decorative edge on the top and bottom of your inner card.
3. Attach the border Peel-Off to pieces of Shimmer Sheetz, fussy cut and attach to the inner card.
4. Cut the Lucy Label Pop Up in the centre, lining the alignment nubs up with the center score line.
5. Cut a piece of patterned paper 4-1/2″ x 12″ and score it in the center giving you a 4-1/2 x 6″ folded card. This is your outer, or backing card.
6. Because my patterned paper was not double sided, I cut two scrap pieces 3″ high and 4″ wide, adhering them on either side of the score line. That way you can see the pattern through the Lucy Label Pop-Ups when the card is viewed at an angle.
Here are some closer looks at the negative Purse Peel-Off on the Shimmer Sheetz – I love how it catches the light!
7. Cut a small butterfly silhouette and body from a scrap of black card stock, and the butterfly overlay from the same Shimmer Sheetz as used on the purse. Adhere together in the center only so the wings can lift.
8. Adhere the inner card to the outer/backing card and then the Shimmer Sheetz embellishments as shown.
9. Arrange a few Glitter Dots below the butterfly to help give the illusion that the butterfly is flying up and at an angle.
10. Cut an oval from white card stock using a decorator die from the Accordion Oval Card. Stamp or hand letter words and adhere oval to the inside the card.
In the photo below you can see how the patterned paper we added in step 6 shows through the pop up openings. Without these pieces, you would see only white. That is fine too, but for this card I wanted to see the pattern so the look was seamless.
As you have seen from the steps above, I complete the inside of my Pop it Up cards first and then decorate the front. The steps below are for the front of the first Purse Peel-off card. TIP: For a fast and easy project you could make a flat side-fold card using only the card front!
11. Cut a 5 x 3-1/2″ rectangle from black card stock.
12. Cut a slightly smaller rectangle from white card stock.
13. Cut a 4-3/4 x 3-1/4″ rectangle from patterned paper, and adhere the three panels together. Run the layered panel through your preferred machine with the Hearts Entwined embossing folder. Adhere this embossed panel to your card front as shown.
14. Using the Happy Birthday die, cut it five times from black card stock and once from the same Shimmer Sheetz. Adhere the black layers together, one on top of the other to create a nice thick word stack. Adhere the Shimmer Sheetz words on top and adhere to the embossed panel.
15. Cut the butterfly silhouette and body from the same Shimmer Sheetz and the overlay from black card stock. Adhere together at the center as before so the wings can lift.
16. Add one of the flower Peel-Offs and a negative flower to the Shimmer Sheetz, fussy cut and adhere as shown.
17. Adhere a Ribbon Flower Peel-Off border across the bottom edge as shown. Color around the flowers with a marker, and add tiny Glitter Dots to the center of each flower.
Here is the finished card.
This was the card we gave my Mom on her birthday earlier this month and she loved it.
For my second card, I used the coloured Peel-Off!
1. Cut Kraft card stock 4-1/4 x 11″ and score at 5-1/2″ to create a standard A2 sized top fold card (4-1/4 x 5-1/2″).
2. Cut a patterned card stock panel 4 x 5-1/2, then use one of the Agatha Edges to shape the bottom edge. Adhere to front of card and outline with a fine point black marker.
3. Adhere the Purse Peel-Off, 3 flowers and a bow to 90# watercolor paper.
4. Scribble with Tombow Dual Brush Markers (a water based artist marker) on a plastic palette, then use a wet paintbrush to pick up the colour and paint. Watercolor the Peel-Offs.
5. Fussy cut and adhere the purse to the card with foam tape as shown.
6. Adhere the flowers and bow to the purse as shown.
7. Cut a patterned paper panel 4 x 5-1/4″ and adhere inside card.
8. Cut a white panel 3-3/4 x 5″ and attach to the patterned one.
9. Snip the Peel-Off border to fit the white panel and adhere one piece at the top and one at the bottom.
10. Stamp your greeting inside and your card is finished!
Thanks for stopping by … I hope I’ve encouraged you to try using the negative images on your Peel-Off sheets and Shimmer Sheetz.

Great cards, Karen. A really good way to use the negative pieces from the peel-offs sheet, too. Doubles the possibilities.
