Embossed Metal Technique

March 30, 2014

Hello everyone,

Today I like to share with you a card from our Guest Designer Jessie Hurley. Jessie has many years experience in the craft industry having owned her own Papercrafting shop and the experience she gained teaching craft classes and make and takes all over British Columbia, Canada.
Jessie describes herself as the Technique Master, since she has rarely repeated a class.
The technique she is sharing with you today is one that I absolutely love and can not wait to try myself. For this card Jessie used our Daisies in Oval Peel-Off sticker and one of our new embossing folders. I hope you are just as excited as I am! First have a look at this beautiful card and read Jessie’s step by step instructions below.

IMG_0849

Step 1: Carefully peel your Elizabeth Craft Designs Peel-Off sticker and place it on the back side (the silver side) of the Spellbinders Craft Foil.

IMG_0833

Step 2: Using your paper stomp, on the coloured side of the craft foil, (the side that doesn’t have your peel-off sticker) gently rub the area where the Peel-Off sticker is underneath, being sure to get into each area and making the lines of the peel-off sticker show up sharply through the craft foil. If you do not make the image sharp, then the next steps will not be as spectacular!

IMG_0834

Step 3: Place the Craft Foil onto the embossing folder, it doesn’t matter which side of the folder, though each side will give you a different look.  Tape the foil down if you would like to ensure that it doesn’t move in the next step.

IMG_0838

Step 4: Again with your paper stomp, rub around your Peel-Off image, creating an embossed pattern on the craft foil.  You do not need to rub too hard for this step, but you do need to ensure that the pattern is complete. You can not do this step using your embossing machine, as the machine will emboss the pattern on the embossing folder right into your Peel-Off image.

IMG_0841

Step 5: Using your sanding block, gently scratch off the top surface of colour on the craft foil.  I like to rub in small circles as the scratches will show up on the metal, and circular scratches are nicer looking than straight scratches!  You can rub off as much or as little of the colour as you like.

IMG_0844

Step 6: Attach the image to your card. There is no need to remove the Peel-Off sticker from the craft foil.  It will help keep your image from collapsing as people poke it to see how you did it!

Fluttering Bye To Say ‘Happy Birthday’!!

March 29, 2014

DSC_0275-1

Hi Everyone, It’s Jackie from snowy Alberta once again. I’m getting real tired of all this snow, it’s suppose to be spring! Anyways I’m back with a spring like birthday card featuring Karen Burniston Butterfly Pivot Card. I cut out the butterfly pivot card using Early Espresso paper for the base and Bo Bunny’s ‘Primrose’ collection for the rest. For the front of the card, I cut out the “Happy Birthday” using a piece of Elizabeth Crafts Designs Black Velvet Adhesive sheet. I cut out the 3 silhouette  butterflies using one of the decorator dies included in the Butterfly Pivot Card die set. I cut one butterfly out of double sided adhesive and applied Silk Microfine Glitter “Leaf Green” to it. I then die cut the overlay using the overlay die from the same set out of black velvet adhesive. I applied the overlay on top of the green glitter butterfly. I also cut out 3 butterfly bodies. I used a background technique that I found here for the other 2 butterflies.

DSC_0292-1

DSC_0289-1For the other butterfly on the right I used the same technique but changed the colour of the glitter to Fuchsia. The other butterflies were cut out of the Bo Bunny paper called “Primerose Bliss” and again I cut out the butterfly using the black velvet adhesive. I cut 2 trips out of the background paper that I used for the butterflies on the front of the card and embossed these using the Butterflies folder by Karen Burniston for Elizabeth Craft Designs. I then sponged on some Victorian Velvet Distress ink to highlight the embossed areas.

DSC_0290-1

DSC_0293-1For the tag on the right hand side I used a sticker by Bo Bunny Primrose collection and cut it out using Elizabeth Craft Designs die called “Tags”.
DSC_0278-1For the left hand tag I stamped the saying from stamp collection called ‘Occasional Quotes’ by Stampin ‘Up using black crafters ink and embossed using clear embossing powder. Again I cut it out using the Elizabeth Craft Designs die called “Tags”. I added some pink/brown satin ribbon by May Arts.

Owl Stand Up Card

March 28, 2014

ECDOwlStandUp-wm

Hi everyone,

It’s Frances here and it is my turn to post on the Elizabeth Craft Designs blog today.

Those of you who know me know I love owls, so I was super excited when I discovered that Elizabeth Craft Designs had Owl Circle Peel-Off Stickers … yay! So I thought I would use one of the owls from the set to create my card to share with you all today. This is actually a “stand up card” using the Elizabeth Craft Design Stand Up Helper die set.

ECDOwlStandUp2-wm

Here is how I created my card:

1. Cut a piece of double sided adhesive paper 3 inches  x 4inches. Remove the protective liner from one side of adhesive and set aside on your desk. Adhere the paper to a piece of card the stamp size. Use the largest circle accessory die from the Oval Accordion card die set to cut a circle from this card, cutting the circle to one side so you still have some scrap adhesive left.

ECDOwlStandUp5-wm

2. From the Owl Circle Peel-Off Sticker remove the bottom owl circle; the coordinating eyes and three leaves. Place these sticky side up onto the liner from the double sided adhesive paper that we set aside earlier. Carefully position the circle we cut over the owl circle. Use the left over approx. 1 inch x 3 inch piece of adhesive card to adhere the eyes and leaves.

ECDOwlStandUp6-wm

3. Apply Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter to all peel-off pieces and rub in. You can see a video Els created using this technique here. Color images as desired, I colored my owl using pinks and reds so it would work with the colors of my designer papers. Use foam tape to adhere the second set of eyes over the eyes of the owl in the circle.

4. Use the Circle Accordion Card page die to die cut a circle from red card. Layer the glittered owl image onto the red circle and set aside.

5. Cut a piece of red card for the base of the card which is 4 3/4inches x 9 1/2. Use score board to score card along the 9 1/2 inch side at 2 3/8 inches and 4 3/4 inches. Fold card in half so it measures 4 3/4 inches square.

6. Cut a piece of designer paper 4 1/2 inches square and adhere this to the front of folded card card you created in step 5. Now you can fold along the 2 3/8 inch score line also created in step 5.

7. Cut a piece of designer paper 4 1/2 inches for the inside of the card. I also cut a piece of red card the same size and layered both pieces together so the base of my card didn’t have a hole in it and because I was using designer paper it strengthens the paper, but this is optional.

8. Position the leaf from the Stand Up Helper die set approx. in the centre of the designer paper we cut in step 7 and run this through a die cutting machine. I wanted my leaf stand up helper to look more like a leaf and the other leaves on my card so I also cut a small piece of double side adhesive paper. placed this onto some white card and then die cut the leaf stand up die from the adhesive paper and then applied the glitter as I did in step 3 and colored my leaf to match the other leaves on my card. I then took a black outline pen to draw and outline around the edge of the leave and the center of the leaves and then adhered this over the red leaf I cut on the designer paper.

9. Cut a thin strip of double sided adhesive paper, approx. 3/4 inch x 7 1/4 inches. Remove the liner from adhesive, set aside the liner and adhere the adhesive to a strip of white card. Remove an 18 inch strip of the ribbon strips from the Ribbon Swirls Peel-Off Stickers and place this sticky side up on the liner we removed previously. Apply Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter to strip and rub into adhesive as previously done on other pieces. Cut the ribbon piece into two pieces one at approx. 4 3/4 inches. Color the 4 3/4 inch piece of ribbon blue and the other red. Adhere the blue piece to the edge of the designer paper we cut in step 8. Adhere this panel to the inside of your card.

ECDOwlStandUp-wm

10. Cut the red piece of ribbon sticker we created in step 9 in half and adhere each piece just below the bottom of the centre fold on the front of my card. (You could use a whole piece if you prefer but as most will be hidden by the owl you only need to add this to each side)

11. Apply foam squares to the lower half of the owl circle and adhere that to the center of the front of the card. The top part of the owl will poke up over the fold when the card is place behind the leaf stand up helper.

ECDOwlStandUp4-wm

12. Use the “Happy Birthday” die and die cut this from black card about 5 times. Use glue build the layers up so you have a thick piece. Adhere the “Happy Birthday” so it is centered between the stand up helper and the blue ribbon strip on the inside of card.

13. Finally adhere the leaves we created in step 1 to either side of the “Happy Birthday”

ECD 3 27 blogpost 5a

Hi Everyone! It’s Debra here from Texas. Spring is in the air and I wanted to create a card that celebrated the beautiful weather we are beginning to see here at home. One of my favorite techniques to use with Elizabeth Craft Designs products is coloring with Copics over the Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. It’s the first technique I learned and one that I love to teach.  To create this card I started with a free digital image of the hot air balloons that I found on the internet. I downloaded it and printed it out on regular white cardstock in the size I wanted for my card. In this case, even though I am coloring with Copic markers, the printer  ink and paper don’t have to be Copic friendly because they will be completely covered with the glitter before being colored with the Copics.

ECD 3 27 Blog post 1a

Once you have chosen your image the instructions are as follows:

Cut a piece of double sided adhesive the same size as the image you want to color. Peel off one side of the release sheet. Place the image face up on your work surface and lay the sticky side of the tape down over the image. Smooth it well before flipping it over. Peel off the remaining release sheet. Carefully holding the edges of the image, completely cover with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, brush off and then polish with your finger to bring up the shine and set the glitter into the adhesive. At this point you are ready to color. Note: if you look closely at the picture you can see fingerprints in the right side of the glitter image. Because I was planning to cut it out, I wasn’t too careful to avoid touching the tape. This is a perfect example of what it looks like if you do, so be careful handling images you don’t plan to cut out!

ECD 3 27 blogpost 2a

To color your image with Copic Markers remember that the glitter is a non porous surface so the ink will sit on top and not soak in. As a result it takes very little ink to cover the glitter. For this image, I layed down a small amount of color and spread it out with my Colorless Blender. You have to be careful not to linger you marker tip on the glitter as the alcohol could dissolve the adhesive if it sits to long so I work quickly in short strokes. Since I don’t have outline stickers to keep the color from running outside the lines, I was careful to color up to the edge but  not cross over. You can use your colorless blender to remove small mistakes. Color the ink with the blender pen and then quickly dab it with a paper towel. That usually does the trick for me. Once you are satisfied with the image cut it out. I went back and colored the cut outer edges of the image with the same color of each part of the image to take away the white edges of the cardstock. It makes it look more finished and hides any uneven trimming.

ECD 3 27 blogpost 3a

The balloons needed a little bling but I didn’t have anything in the right color. I turned to my favorite trusty embellishment, Transparent Glitter Dots. The gold and the silver can be easily colored with Copic markers to customize them perfectly for your project. I colored mine and added them to the large balloon. I added  the negative strips I had left on one sheet of red Glitter Borders to the smaller balloon. They are great for detail work because they can be re-positioned easily to adjust if you need to.

ECD 3 27 blogpost 6a

Here is a little close up of the details. To finish the card I used Studio Calico Storytime paper on the base, inked with Broken China distress ink on the edges.  I cut out clouds using white Velvet Adhesive Sheets and the clouds from the All Seasons Tree die. I love the texture of the velvet in contrast to the glitter.  The sentiment was printed on my computer and also cut with the cloud die. The balloons are on pop dots.

If you haven’t tried coloring on the Silk Microfine Glitter with Copics before I hope this inspires you to give it a try. It’s so much fun!

Thanks for stopping by!

Riding through a Birthday

March 26, 2014

ECD Ride 3 by Candy Spiegel

Hi! It’s Candy Spiegel returning with another project I created. This one was designed for my husband’s birthday.

ECD Ride 2 by Candy SpiegelFor the cover, I started with a piece of Velvet Adhesive Sheet in beige and embossed it with Trendy Tiles 2 embossing folder. I was trying to replicate some sort of brick roadway.

043After embossing, I coated the raised portion with Staz-On Ink in black. Then, I created the corners with a corner rounder.

194I die cut one Happy Birthday out of black card stock and one out of patterned paper and layered the two to create a shadow effect.

186I then transferred my Peel-Off sticker on a piece of double sided adhesive on white card stock and applied Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter. I colored my image with Copic markers. Els has a great You video of this technique: Silk Microfine Glitter – Coloring with Alcohol Markers

188

ECD Ride 2 by Candy SpiegelFor the inside of the card, I used the Lots of Pops die set.

ECD Ride by Candy SpiegelI added “Happy Birthday” on a banner from the Assorted Words Peel-Off sheet.

193The saying was printed on the computer. I used the extra dies from the Katie Label Pivot Card to create the labels. I added tiny steering wheels from the Peel-Off sheet to the edges.

ECD Ride 3 by Candy SpiegelI also added a few planes from that same sticker sheet to the background.

My husband loved it … what do you think?

Upside Down and Still Thinking of You

March 25, 2014

EDHMC_ECD_Tiddly_ALL_3_22_14

Good Morning Everyone,

It’s me again, Rita! Ever since I posted my very first Elizabeth Craft Design project, I’ve been thinking and thinking and thinking… of what exactly could I do next. Something colorful? Something fun? Or maybe something new? Or maybe combine them all!

Let’s see what exactly I’m talking about! And before I forget, please remember to tell me in your comments below if you like this format of steps, I find them useful and would like to hear what you think.

1. Let’s start with some fun paper: Be. Loved by Fancy Pants Designs, which serves as the main frame and floor for my card. Also, we can use some Neenah Pearl card stock, which I airbrushed to serve as our sky.

2. Next I combined some sweet little digital images in Silhouette Studio: Tiddly Inks Hanging around little girl received some legs from School Girl and also added some little birds.

3. At this point we can pull out simple white card stock, double-sided-adhesive and my absolute favorite, Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter — getting exciting, right?

4. Once we peeled off the release sheet of our double-sided adhesive sheet, carefully place it over the white card stock. At this point, we can cut out the size of the paper we need, remove the other release sheet and apply our microfine glitter mentioned above — Els van de Burgt of Elizabeth Craft Designs has a wonderful video of this technique on YouTube: Silk Microfine Glitter – Coloring with Alcohol Markers.

5. Using our freshly glittered adhesive-cardstock, now we can cut out 2 poles and 10 little flags with the Lots of Pops die set. Also cut out the little heart from the Accordion Oval Card die set. They all look beautiful!

6. Using the Lots of Pops die set to create the base of our card.

7. And now my other favorite part: coloring is next! Yes, I’m addicted… So let’s color up the little upside down girl and the little birds. And here comes the beauty of Elizabeth Craft Design’s glitter: now I can use the same Copic markers on the flags that I also used on the clothing. How cool is that! No need to dig for matching paper! No need to match the cloths with paper we already found, none of that old hassle! And the colored flags are simply amazing! Daylight or by the lamp, everything is reflecting the light in the most beautiful way.

8. To decorate the front of our card, I used the Thinking of You die and one of the decorator pieces included in the Katie Label Pivot card die set to cut the label.

9. Now it’s time to assemble. Relax. Sit back and enjoy!

I hope to see your cards soon and please ask me any questions! Hugs, Rita

Fancy Label Accordion Cupcakes Card

March 24, 2014

Hello! Helen here from sunny England! (I’m actually writing this is advance, so the chances are it will be rather grey and blustery again by the time you read this!)

I’d like to share a card with you which features the delightful Cup Cake Peel-Off Stickers, on the Accordion Fancy Label Card.

I started by sticking some Transparent Double Sided Adhesive onto white card stock, and adding the peel-off stickers, then some Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter.  I then coloured in the stickers with the Copic markers pictured. Els has a great tutorial on the best way to do all of this, here.

I also wanted a glittered ‘Happy Birthday’, and achieved this by adding a strip cut from Double Sided Adhesive to some pink card stock. I added some Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, rubbed it in with my finger, then die-cut the ‘Happy Birthday’.

Here are the die-cut elements I used for my card:

You can see that I cut four panels with the Fancy Label Accordion die, four borders for each panel with a Fancy Frame Edges die, and a middle layer for each panel (with one of the other dies in the Fancy Label Accordion set).

I lightly embossed each of these smaller layers with a different Elizabeth Craft Design Embossing Folder (which are listed at the bottom.) I also cut out the cupcakes, plus three extra little peel-off sticker candles, an extra ‘Happy Birthday’ from black card stock, and three little diamonds to go in the corner of each panel. (The diamond die also comes in the Fancy Label Accordion set.)

To give a little extra definition to each of my die-cut pieces, I inked the edges of them, with black ink on a sponge dabber.

I then adhered all the elements of my card, working on a panel at a time, and sticking the four panels together last. You can see below that I layered the pink glittered ‘Happy Birthday’ over the black one, to give a little shadow, and I also added a peel-off bow to the first panel.

I stuck the candles and cupcakes on with foam pads for extra dimension.

I thought my card would be finished then, but it looked a little plain, so I die cut some card stock flowers with the ‘Bunches of Flowers 1’ die set, and glued them over the little diamonds in each corner, along with a candy dot centre in each. I like how the little diamonds now look like leaves.

I hope you like my finished card! I think it will be perfect for my little niece’s birthday.

A simple birthday card using some fun techniques

March 21, 2014

Hi,

It’s Kelly Booth here with a fun simple birthday card using some supplies from Elizabeth Craft Designs.

Owl_Balloon_Closed

I was playing with some Shimmer Sheetz and the new Lots of Dots embossing folder. I used a piece of Blue Iridescent Shimmer Sheetz that I first embossed. I then sanded the dots and decided to color the dots with my Copics. I then used the Accordion Oval Card die and cut an oval from the piece for the backdrop for my glittery balloon Peel-Offs. The Shimmer Sheetz and the colored dots are so fun! And I just love the balloon Peel-Offs covered with the Silk Microfine Glitter and colored.

Here is the inside of the card using the Lucy Label Pop Up die By Karen Burniston:

Owl_Balloon_Open

I love the Silk Microfine Glitter so much and wanted to stamp a fun owl and make him all sparkly!  So I stamped my owl on my regular paper and then put the adhesive sheet on top, peeled off the top sheet and covered it with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter and then colored him with my Copics before cutting the image out.  I was pleased with the results. Oh and I had to had a little glossy accents to his eyes….they are both sparkly and glossy! I also used the Lots of Dots embossing folder for the inside and added some balloon Peel-Offs that I had covered with the glitter and colored with Copics.

Here are a few close ups:

Glittery Shamrock Card

March 20, 2014

It’s Karen Aicken here with today’s blog post.  I know that St. Patrick’s day is past, but a good luck card can be used any time of the year and I thought you would enjoy seeing the card I sent to a long-time friend who is Irish. The card is larger than I usually create – it’s almost 5 x 7″;  the card base is white card stock. The green patterned panel was trimmed slightly smaller and I inked the edges of them. Both were set aside while I worked on the ‘shamrock’.

St. Patrick's Day Card_1

I have to confess – this was my first time using the Double Sided Adhesive and the Silk Microfine Glitter. I love how fine it is, and how SPARKLY! I used the Heart with Wings die to cut six hearts from patterned paper and three from Double Sided Adhesive for a total of 9 identical hearats. I peeled off the backing and added an adhesive heart to each of three patterned paper hearts, then scored the center line so it would fold up a bit. Peeling off the backing sheet to expose the adhesive, I sprinkled three hearts with Spring Peridot Silk Microfine Glitter and rubbed it in well to polish it. Els has a YouTube video HERE showing you the technique, if you want a visual. That gave me 3 patterned paper hearts and 3 glittering hearts.

Then I outlined each of them with a gold Sharpie marker, spread a bead of glue down the back fold of the glittered heart and attached the glittered ones to the patterned paper hearts. Now I had 3 layered, glittery hearts! I wanted the sides of the hearts to lift a little, so I attached small pieces of foam tape in between the hearts layers close to the fold AFTER the glue had dried.

St. Patrick's Day Card_2

I wanted to add the Gold Heart Peel-Offs, and while they adhered just fine to the glittered hearts, the next time I would add them first THEN add the Spring Peridot Glitter.  I love Tombow Markers, so added some colour to the open heart shapes with a dark green Tombow.  Then I added a gold Lace Fan Peel-Off border to the top and bottom edges of the green panel, then attached my layered hearts to form a shamrock shape. Hmmm … it still needed something in the center, and a stem too.

St. Patrick's Day Card_3

For my second confession I have to show you the very first heart I glittered. I had the bright idea to lightly sprinkle the Spring Peridot glitter then add Warm Diamond to allow the patterned paper to show through. It turned out NOT so nice looking, so I set that heart aside and cut another one to glitter with the green. But I just couldn’t TOSS the ‘goofed up’ heart.  Instead, I used the smaller heart die that comes in the Heart with Wings set and cut a heart for the center of the shamrock, then trimmed a piece off the left edge on an angle for the stem. These were outlined with the same green Tombow marker and attached to the Shamrock. I added green seam binding then attached the panel to the white card base.

For the inside, I cut a smaller folded card and cut the Lucy Label Pop Up. The Pop it Ups dies are unique in that you get to choose what size card to use AND where on the fold you want the pop up to be. I wanted the Pop Up to be towards the top, rather than centered.

I still had some of the green patterned paper leftover, so I cut the Lucy Label again with a piece just big enough to cover the edges of the label. A few snips of the excess, and I had a perfectly shaped patterned label to attach over the white one. I inked the edges of the label before gluing it down. The letters were done by hand, and coloured with the same green Tombow Marker and Tombow Blender Pen. Then I cut the letters out and glued them to the patterned label.

The Lucy Label comes with an optional, additional bump out and I decided to use it for this card.  I cut three more small hearts from scraps of the patterned paper and hand cut a stem. For the circle, I used the one from the Big Flowers Set 1 die set. All the edges were inked then I added smaller gold Peel-Offs from the Heart Peel-Off sheet. They were coloured with the green Tombow Marker and Blender pen and the shamrock was assembled and attached to the heart bump out. I penned the word ‘you’ and added colour with Tombow Markers.  Done!

My fellow ECD Design Team-mate Frances thought this would make a nice ‘Good Luck’ card so I thought I’d mention that suggestion as well.  I sure enjoyed playing with the Elizabeth Craft Designs Silk Microfine Glitter, and you will be seeing more and more of it on my cards.

Please be sure to stop by my blog www.alteredscrapbooking.blogspot.ca, as I use lots of ECD products and there is a new post almost daily.

While I have included links to all the Elizabeth Craft Designs products I used for this card, I also wanted to add that the green patterned paper is by DCWV and the seam binding is from Stampin’ Up.

Thanks for stopping by today!
