Doublehigh Katie Label Pivot Cards

February 26, 2014

The Karen Burniston Designer Challenge for February was to use any of the Pop it Ups Pivot Card dies for a card of any theme. The Designer Challenge Team knocked it out of the park with their creations and you can see them all on the post here.

As part of the monthly Designer Challenges I create a new video tutorial meeting the theme and teaching some sort of new twist or technique with the dies. My video tutorial for February was how to use a folding technique with the Katie Label Pivot Card to double the height of the pop-up labels, allowing space for larger embellishments. Here’s that video in case you missed it:

Now the most exciting part about any new video tutorial is when I see people trying the technique. I have been thrilled to see so many Doublehigh Katie Label Pivot Cards being posted online so I thought I would gather all the links into one follow-up post so you can check them out.

First up, let’s head to England where Caroline “Caz” Counsell has created this adorable owl card. Caz added white gel pen dots around the perimeter of the doublehigh Katie Label and used the Fancy Accordion labels for her stamped images. Clever use of decorative circle gems to hide the remaining bit of fold line. See it on her blog here: Caz Doublehigh Katie Label Pivot Card

Next up is a lovely Happy Birthday card courtesy of Karen Aicken. Karen used the Agatha Edges die to help disguise the fold line and decorated the pop-up labels with circle embellishments. A very nice touch is the tone-on-tone Agatha Flourish beneath the pop-up. See this card on Karen’s blog here: Karen’s Doublehigh Katie Label Pivot Card

Fran Sabad made THREE doublehigh cards. For this first one, I’m showing it in the closed position so you can the beautiful way she colored the Stampin’ Up! greeting stamp. She used the Agatha Edges to disguise the fold and circle embellishments (with extending fold-hiding banners) for the pop-up labels. Karen Greenstreet has been blowing my mind with the amazingly detailed Pop it Ups cards she’s been posting on her Pinterest Board. I highly recommend following Karen so you don’t miss any of her amazing work, including this Doublehigh Katie Label Pivot Card featuring adorable stamped and colored images. Frances Byrne of Australia is the stamping wonder from down under. In fact, I’ve started referring to her creations as “downunderful” (see what I did there?) She not only has, as near as I can tell, the largest rubber stamp collection that ever was, but she is amazing at finding the perfect patterned papers to match her stamps. In this case, some great feathered paper with the Agatha Edges disguise the fold and she used the Fancy Accordion Labels to display her stamped images. See this downunderful creation on her blog here: Frances’ Doublehigh Katie Label Pivot Card

Speaking of stamps, Kelly Booth has an impressive array of them herself. Kelly’s signature look includes stamping her own backgrounds but for this card she stepped out of her comfort zone to give patterned paper a try. I love the fun results! She used the Agatha Edges to disguise the fold and the Fancy Accordion Labels for her cute glittery pinwheel and googly-eyed sentiment. Raquel Mason also used the doublehigh technique as a platform for stamped images. In this case she has a hilarious punch line, so you’ll want to click over to her blog to see the front of the card. She used the Fancy Accordion Labels to decorate the pop-up labels and the Fancy Frame Edges to add the trellis border to the outside edges. Remember how I said Fran Sabad had made three cards? Here are the final two, in which Fran did something ever so brilliant – she made a card . . . looked at the leftover supplies sitting on the desk . . . and made a second card! She changed the combinations of colors, but otherwise followed the same roadmap to create two similar cards. If you create your own version of the Doublehigh Katie Label Pivot card I’d love to see it! You may find yourself featured on my Facebook Page and Pivot Cards Pinterest Board.

For shopping, you’ll need a Katie Label Pivot Card Die and then some decorator pieces. As an option, you may try the dies used most commonly in these samples, including the Agatha Edges and the Fancy Label Accordion Card (for the decorator labels)

Great post Karen B – the Double-High technique is a lot of fun and I really like the extra decorating space it gives. Loved seeing all the samples in one spot.

Agree with Raquel, it’s a lot nicer to have all the cards in one spot; closing one before going to the next one is a pain.

I wish you would make a double wide die as I really like the size of the double wide cards. I also don’t like the fold line that I have to hide. Maybe in the future. I love all your dies but these from Eliz.Craft are fabulous!!
